19:00 seems to be daytime TV which reach of the off button.

What a disaster for Emmerdale at 8pm!”

Wow at ED second rating that's shocking see what happens with head starts. We'll done BBC you give itv a taste of their own medicine.

281k (1.3%), that includes +1.

In comparison, last year's première on More4 averaged 388k (1.8%), including +1 on July 5th, 2013.

No wonder More 4 dropped Scandal.

half a million watching the +1 showing of Emmerdale at 9.00pm

Plus i guess many people will have recored the 8.00pm ep and watched it back at 8.30pm - so they wont show in the ratings yet.

But, overall i expected the 8pm Emmerdale to go higher especially with the cliffhanger in the 7pm episode.

Not sure why ITV didnt just show an hour long episode at 7.00pm with Tonight... at 8.00pm ?

Im sure it would have been lower in the Emmerdale Farm days when many regions showed it in the afternoon.

I don't think it matters what the cliffhanger was. People weren't going to turn from EastEnders. ITV should have made Emmerdale an hour from 7 to 8pm again.

It makes a change to see Emmerdale on the receiving end for a change.

All such timeshifts watched the same day are included in the overnights, as per:

Quote:
“What is VOSDAL data?

VOSDAL stands for Viewing On Same Day As Live. VOSDAL includes timeshift viewing that occurs on the same day as the original broadcast. This is included in the overnight files released at 9.30am the following day. For example, if a film starts at 5.30pm and is recorded for viewing later the same evening, say 9.00pm, this viewing is captured and reported in the overnight file published the following day.”

Edited to change "the same evening" to "the same day"

Yes anything up to 2am counts in the overnights.

Elsewhere...

Channel 4's Hollyoaks interested 759k (5.1%) at 6.30pm as Ste's loved ones rallied round him. E4's first-look gathered 735k (4.5%) at 7pm (173k/0.9%).

Earlier, BBC One's Doctors continued with 979k (16.3%) at 1.45pm.

Channel 5's Home and Away was seen by 157k (2.4%) at 1.15pm and 509k (3.9%) at 6pm, while 5*'s first-look attracted 285k (1.9%) at 6.30pm.

Neighbours' latest episode appealed to 574k (9.4%) at 1.45pm and 680k (6.3%) at 5.30pm.

Thanky you!

That is awful though , and I'm really surprised given the huge push Sky gave it, they really pushed the previous seasons on demand and there were paper and radio ads too. I know they were coming into it 3 seasons in but I at least expected 500k + in the officials going by what More4 managed with not much promotion.

Looks like I may be watching online next year!

The premiere was available for a week before the TV debut, and the episode was heavily pushed to customers. That likely impacts the ep1 figures. Episide 2 will be interesting though.

Keep an eye on how the one show does next week because I don't think that's far off what The one Show can do at this time of the year. I think if a daytime program can do this in the 7pm slot then if they tried something different at 7pm it could really work.

Blimey, so often we are used to EastEnders being on the receiving end, this just further proves what a head start can do.

Glad to see no clashes next week.

However good they are, they are woefully unsuitable for 9pm. BBC1 show the equivalent programmes at 10.35 usually.

I'm saying no more than 5 million for tumble tomorrow, they needed 1 celebrity who would make the tabloids, but as that hasn't happened, I feel a flop coming on!!!

I like how people mention Tumble on DS, When no one even talks about it outside here.

Walter on BBC1 at 9 pm tonight with the excellent Adrian Dunbar should be worth a watch as I believe they see it as a potential series ( pilot as we used to call them).

It has had zero promotion so I don't fancy Walter's chances much.

I've seen a few trails for it but then a good rating would make it even more successful. It's odd how the BBC madly promotes some programmes and virtually ignores others - a week of trails for EE without saying what time it was on !

Walter has already been rejected by ITV.

Although, to be fair, ITV also rejected Last Tango In Halifax and look what happened there.

I haven't seen anything for Walter just Tumble, Scrappers, Boomers, The Village, Doctor Who and a few others.

Walter was never offered to ITV. It was written under a pseudonym by ITV Studios boss Kevin Lygo.

I feel perhaps a bigger factor than competition was the subject: I hadn't heard of Brittany Murphy whereas I certainly did know of Michael Hutchence and Karen Carpenter.

“Meanwhile over on C4:”

Note that despite the huge fall in volume, the share for First Time Farmers was marginally up on the last series premiere at 20:00 on a Friday in January 2013 because the total TV audience was around -9m lower last night at 22:00 than it was then.
