I think it does. It's like America now where programmes with tiny ratings keep coming back because they skew young.

Looks like Big Brother was ahead in total numbers but not the youth demo.

The publicity machine is in full swing for "Doctor Who" now. I don't remember a more exciting launch

Yeah. But still a bad rating for a new primetime bbc1 drama to rate under 3million. BBC need to reconsider working with Kevin Lygo again after this dismal rating.

Did anybody actually watch Walter? I assume it was as bad as predicted?

"@TVRatingsUK: After soaps and news, BBC1's 7pm offering #TheSheriffsAreComing was Friday's most watched with 3.24m/18.1%."

I see that. BB already has a big youth audience, so the Singer Takes it All must have a huge young audience!!

This series of Doctor Who is getting levels of promotion like the 50th. You'd expect it to launch higher than 9m after all of that.

DS report is out. BB got 1.3m excl +1, which puts it at the highest eviction of the series,

It has got widespread publicity on radio and chat shows BBC breakfast, Lorraine, and all the contestants are bigging it up on twitter. I would expect a good rating for the first show

So it would seem, not such a flop as we all first thought, should do well with advertisers, last leg also won 16-34 timeslot,

Soap ratings. Low for Doctors. And Coronation Street still rh e only soap getting over 6m.

Coronation Street tops Friday soap ratings with Jim's return

Coronation Street was Friday evening's top-rated soap (August 8) as Peter Barlow's prison storyline led to the return of Jim McDonald, overnight figures show.

6.47m (35.1%) watched at 7.30pm on ITV and 109k (0.6%) on +1 as Peter was left disappointed by Simon's no-show at the jail. 6.18m (31.3%) returned at 8.30pm and 183k (1.0%) on +1 as Peter visited the prison's 'landlord' Jim for some alcohol to ease his pain.

EastEnders attracted 5.84m (30.5%) at 8pm on BBC One as Kat and Alfie Moon's twin sons arrived. BBC Three's repeat screening secured 374k (2.6%) at 10.30pm.

Emmerdale appealed to 5.4m (31.2%) at 7pm on ITV and 130k (0.7%) on +1 as Rakesh blackmailed Jai.

All three soaps were up on recent Friday performances. Corrie's 7.30pm figure was its highest Friday rating since June 6, EastEnders scored its best Friday audience since May 16, while Emmerdale had its strongest Friday episode since May 23.

Elsewhere, Hollyoaks continued with 868k (5.4%) at 6.30pm on Channel 4 as Cindy planned her escape from the village, while E4's first look followed with 693k (4.0%) at 7pm and 122k (0.6%) on +1.

Over on Channel 5, Neighbours entertained 537k (8.2%) at 1.45pm and 785k (6.4%) at 5.30pm, the show's highest Friday teatime rating since April 25. Home and Away managed 245k (3.5%) at 1.15pm, 555k (3.8%) at 6pm and 298k (1.8%) for 5*'s first look at 6.30pm.

BBC One's latest Doctors episode was seen by 1.05m (16.0%) at 1.45pm

A narrow gap between "EastEnders" and "Coronation Street". ITV seem to have given up in the slot opposite " Doctor Who" launch day.

You weren't around in March 2005 then?

All the 'new Doctor launches' since then have come within months of the old Doctor bowing out, but this time it's been well over a year since the last series, so there's automatically going to be more hype based on the longer wait

Ha ha ha ha ha. Thanks for making me laugh.

The only reason why I posted was because I was responding to a post which, in my view, invited skewed comparisons between EastEnders and Emmerdale's clash figures this week. That poster didn't mention Coronation Street so I didn't mention it.

If you insist on moving the goalposts, if Friday's overnights are anything to go by, EastEnders isn't too far behind the soap that can do no wrong, Coronation Street.

EastEnders may not have been strong ratings-wise this summer but what soap has been?

"EastEnders in crisis"... I remain to be convinced.

It's an okay 16-34 figure for C4 but nothing to shout about, really, especially when Walter and a Doc Martin rerun was the main opposition. These two programmes did extremely poorly in that demo as you'd expect, so there were more 16-34s available than usual. I think Four will just be thankful it didn't really lose any viewers week-on-week, despite the incredibly poorly received first episode. It's still a flop IMO but you never know, it might come back.

All soaps within 1.1m of each other. Perhaps evidence that the casual audience for Corrie/EE is declining as Emmerdale isn't that far behind both now.

Any thoughts on the return of Cuckoo.
Back after 23 months: Andy Samberg has gone, another member of the cast re-cast. Getting Taylor Lautner was a big coup for them and Greg Davies & Tyger Drew-Honey remain.

Season one got overnights of 1.15 million with the series consolidating to 800K by the end of the season.
Opened with approx 650K and another 350K watched a repeat yesterday. Sits at 5 on IPlayer aswell.

Surprisingly robust I think and the 'all showings' data which the BBC (especially BBC 3) seem to like using should be ok.

If it gets recomissioned, Lautner probably won't be in it it has been announced. Would it go online? Are the figures good enough for BBC2: Although to be fair recomissioned comedies on BBC2 often don't produce stellar figures.

Exactly. Emmerdale and EastEnders have different ratings expectations. I still think EastEnders should be further in front. Will be interesting to see what the autumn brings.

I must admit I'm really looking forward to Tumble later - it looks like a nice, fun show. I think it will manage 6 - 6.5 million.

You will be very popular with BBC management with those sort of predictions.

EastEnders will probably become neck and neck, possibly taking over Corrie in the ratings around in late Autumn and early Winter. Judging by the year it's having, Corrie will be down significantly on last year whereas EE will be up because it was in decline this time last year.

Either way, I'm glad to see that all three soaps are achieving their best Friday figures since late May/early June. I'm guessing next week we'll start to see the soaps recovering (especially with the weather taking a turn for the worse).

Consolidated soap ratings for July:

Coronation Street
Average = 7.25m (35.4%) / 7.50m (36.6%) [Last Year = 8.09m (38.1%) / 8.38m (39.4%)]
- w.b. 3rd July - 7.17m (34.3%) / 7.48m (35.8%)
- w.b. 7th July - 7.30m (34.8%) / 7.52m (35.8%)
- w.b. 14th July - 7.55m (36.7%) / 7.78m (37.8%)
- w.b. 21st July - 6.98m (36.0%) / 7.22m (37.2%)
- w.b. 28th July - 7.16m (34.5%) / 7.45m (35.9%)

EastEnders
Average = 5.91m (29.5%) [Last Year = 6.71m (32.8%)]
- w.b. 3rd July - 6.14m (30.2%)
- w.b. 7th July - 6.47m (31.7%)
- w.b. 14th July - 6.21m (31.5%)
- w.b. 21st July - 5.23m (27.3%)
- w.b. 28th July - 5.53m (26.5%)

Emmerdale
Average = 5.60m (30.1%) / 5.81m (31.3%) [Last Year = 6.34m (33.8%) / 6.59m (35.0%)]
- w.b. 3rd July - 5.45m (28.1%) / 5.70m (29.3%)
- w.b. 7th July - 5.94m (31.5%) / 6.11m (32.4%)
- w.b. 14th July - 5.58m (30.5%) / 5.78m (31.5%)
- w.b. 21st July - 5.34m (30.4%) / 5.57m (31.7%)
- w.b. 28th July - 5.68m (29.7%) / 5.90m (30.8%)

A pretty depressing set of numbers all down, it has to be said. In terms of percentages...

- Coronation Street: down 11.6% / 11.7%
- EastEnders: down 13.5%
- Emmerdale: down 13.2% / 13.4%

I would say that without the BBC Two move, EastEnders' drop would really be circa. 9% year-on-year.

Corrie has got some pretty heavy declines YOY, much ;like EE did in 2013. Will ITV take notice?

Re Tumble; given the lack on competition and promotional push I'm expecting a rating of around 4.4m. I think the BBC have been quite clever in what they're doing, launching Tumble 2 week before Dr Who, if it does poorly or drops heavily then they can put Pointless on before DW and push Tumble into daytime.

I suspect the BBC are expecting a 4m+ figure tonight after the number of flops they've had.
