Since the GBBO became big that is hyped a lot. Does that not mean it shouldn't be?

Doctor Who is very heavily hyped”

Is "Doctor Who" back on now? What's the "Great British Bake Off" all about then??

I dont think it will do that well actually. Scheduling it against the premier of DA is daft. Bad enough it was going against DA in the first place.

Well I enjoy the X Factor on ITV and Crimes of Passion on BBC Four, what kind of viewer does that make me?

I like everything from niche factual on BBC4 to big dramas on ITV, to reality shows of IAC and CBB. I enjoy most TV. I can find interest in most programmes.

I'm terrible at working out dates but was there any way to launch Our Girl after Stricly a couple of weeks ago? Obviously that would rely on getting The Village out of the way first.

I didn't even know Our Girl had a thread! Well you learn something new every single day around here!

I don't expect much from Our Girl purely because it faced Downton. Would have had a chance for 5/6m on a Monday or Tuesday.

Probably the best description for it!

Yes I am, and I also enjoy Emmerdale.... Should that make me a middle aged housewife who likes going to bingo? I'm a 23 year old man. I like soaps, reality shows and crime dramas - those are my top 3 favourite genres of TV.

They simply could have swapped them round and put The Village which we knew was doomed ratings wise against DA. Now whether it would have done any better who knows - but at least it would have had a chance. It looked a very expensive production as well to be almost thrown away as it has been.
Alternatively they could have put it on Tuesdays with The Driver on Sunday.

The Driver looks like a one off drama to me, or does it have potential to run for another series? I would have put that on Sundays myself as it looks more male skewing drama, so ideal to face Downton. And I would have put Our Girl on Tuesdays, it would be a nice fit as it would follow the female skewing Holby City and would have the soapy viewers locked in for the evening from EastEnders, who'll most likely want to watch Lacey Turner in a lead role so they'd stick with BBC One all evening in that case.

The Village started as early as it could, the week after the Commonwealth Games closing ceremony.

While I was expecting and hoping that Our Girl would air on Tuesdays, I can see why they do choose to air drama against Downton, as factual tends to do even worse. I'd imagine even a big Attenborough wouldn't be able to pull in more than the dramas would.

I think Our Girl stands a better chance than the others, since it probably has a younger audience than the likes of The Driver and The Village.

I like Doctor Who and Strictly, does that make me a geek middle class pensioner then?

Exactly my thinking. But we must remember these are the same muppets that put Our Zoo at 9pm on a Wednesday.

You are scarily close with that assessment....though none of my family or friends will let me go travelling on my own, they wouldn't trust me to look after myself and I would get lost in the airport before even boarding the plane!

(Sorry, off topic) .... But to bring it on topic slightly... I think there are a lot of 'weird' viewers like myself out there who enjoy watching 'trash' television and also more engaging television too. I'd bet there are some BBC Four viewers, who also enjoy a guilty fix of the X Factor at some point

Another poster praising Downton Abbey here - a very good opening episode.

Though I would like to point out that barely anyone disputed Our Zoo's scheduling until the first overnight came in. Indeed, many thought it was a masterstroke making the most of the Bake Off's lead in - I must admit, I was one of them.

My guilty pleasure, wait for it now, is Jeremy Kyle. I think it can be quite amusing and actually in one case he helped a young man whose father ran away when he was six. I used to hate it, but now think it's the only decent thing on in the morning.

I watch a lot of BBC4 and BBC2 but no reality at all. Love drama though and trashy US shows - nobody makes trash like the US.

Netflix UK was down for a while this evening. That might have helped Our Girl and Downton a little bit.
