Look forward to 4 months of X Factor overkill. Already my local radio station is going on about the new series as if it's the second coming of Christ and The Sun is running the usual exclusives on its front page. However, we have to be objective about it as it is a big rater and makes money for ITV in a way few other shows can.

BT Sport reaches about 2M people a week to itv's 38M (approx; fluctuates).

Obviously highlights how many people watch BT Sport purely for the football, though. You yourself say you would only want it for the football.

I loathe the XF. Give me IACGMOOH anyday over TXF. Where the Voice is dull and uncaptivating, TXF is loud, brash and so rigged to make better TV. (I don't mean The result is rigged) The media circus is coming to town with all the bullpoo and "Cheryly Hates Louis" style stories, it's going to be a hell of a long four months. And, Sunday mornings on here. Give me a valium!

Compares very favourably with the 2.7M average recorded by ITV last year (for a match which featured ratings magnet Manchester United).”

2.36m for the highlights on BBC One at 10.25pm as well.

Charlotte Moore doing well to pull this show over and validate its move. Willing "Doctor Who" to get equally as many viewers now.”

The spin off was a great addition to GBBO but the only way I could see it on the main channel as well is in the slot after the news as it would be a lazy choice for 9pm on BBC One. Doctor Who will easily get good figures as well given ITV's white flag on Saturday nights.

TXF is awful, I'd rather watch paint dry and I find it overbearing, trashy and boring. Yet 8 million people continue to watch and no doubt any rise or fall in the ratings will generate comments. Also it's around until 2016 so we have two more years of it. Wonder, though, if ratings fall in the way DOI did, that ITV would get rid of it as Rising Star is probably being created as a successor to it.

This looks like an evolution from Channel 4's Hotel GB.

Whatever they ask Mel C to do, don't ask her to do judo after an incident on The Games 11 years ago.

Although the jury is still out on Rising Star - it has not done that well around the world has it?

Talking of which, Rising Star hit a new low last night. Last in its timeslot. Flush!

ABC Rising Star -Live 0.7 / 2.92m viewers

Awful numbers in the US last night with just 2.92m viewers and a series low 0.7 in the demo.

Beaten by:

Repeats of American Dad, The Simpsons, Ninja Warrior, 60 Minuets and Americas Got Talent as well as new American Funniest Home Videos, Big Brother, Wipeout and the Teen Choice awards.

Just terrible.

Can't be any worse than 'The Singer Takes It All'. Presumably C4 commissioned that as an intended spoiler but it's backfired somewhat because Rising Star will look like fine art in comparison, no matter how good RS actually is.

Not my bag, but I'd imagine it will do mega numbers as usual.”

And here's one for today:

Cheryl Cole's feud with Louis Walsh continues after she brands him as having '50 faces'

I'm really excited about "Doctor Who" return this time for the first time in a long while. I hope its not disappointing.

A very good start for The Village last night and BBC One had a strong night overall. Disastrous for ITV - it wasn't a bad schedule but after not turning up for a couple of months people are not going to tune in. Cars of the People performed excellently for BBC Two and Child Genius performed steadily for Channel 4. Big Brother didn't disgrace itself despite the arrival of Made in Chelsea NYC which did well itself.

-----------------

As said before, Rising Star was always on a hiding for nothing in America. How can they have a live show which includes an in-show app when most of the audience can't vote with it?

As I am on a Gladiators marathon, I am wondering, does anyone know what it was rating for each series on ITV between 1992-2000? I'm wondering how it compares to ITV now.

I wouldn't be so sure. Anyone who caught 5 minutes of it will see the ITV show and think "Channel 4 already did this", even if they do it much better. It's not going to seem like a new and exciting idea. I don't see it doing well.

Yes, but that will probably be the best weekend of Factor ratings all series. Some of the lost viewers will be back to see Cowell, but after that I'd expect the ratings to be no better than last year's. Wouldn't even be surprised to see a sub-7m (Saturday) studio show later in the series.

Ouch, that's equivalent to a peak time show on BBC One getting 600,000 viewers. It does seem America is falling out with singing reality shows as AI is fading away and TXFUSA has been cancelled. Also in America should a show fare really badly after a weeks it gets pulled, a similar thing happened to I Wanna Marry Harry, a real crock that somehow ITV 2 got hold of( probably will get an award in December for most deserved flop of the year).

Surely the great British public are not going to fall for all this guff - are they?

It was actually extremely good. The best thing I have seen so far about the centenary on any channel. Though I have not watched all by any means.

But it was never going to appeal to people watching the usual ITV Sunday fare of jolly game shows, easy watching dramas like Heartbeat or family friendly documentaries.

Basically excellent programme + wrong channel = rubbish ratings.”

It was a 10.15pm programme at 9pm, really.

For the record, Saturday's repeat of The Great British Bake Off averaged 1.09m (16.8%). More impressively, five days on, the show has only dropped down to 4th in BBC's iPlayer chart.

So chances are that the launch reached about 11 million viewers across the BBC One première, the BBC One repeat and BBC iPlayer.

Bonkers.

This is something that will never happen again...

Quote:
“BBC1 w/e 3 Aug 2014
7 day data (Millions)
1 COUNTRYFILE (SUN 1900) 5.76”

As expected, the two Commonwealth Games weeks saw BBC One's #30 rating drop below 3 million viewers - in the latter week, 2.07m was good enough for #30.

EDIT - Worth noting I feel that some of the Red Button streams did fairly well, breaking 100k occasionally.

And we have have the annual "Louis Walsh Sniping Against Strictly Contest" for 2014, started here:
