From what i gather EastEnders is further a head in Filming. They have filmed Christmas already.
I think it sounds like a number of storylines will come to a head around the LIVE eps so that should carry us through unlike in 2010

why do the guardian say the ee live episode in 2010 was watched by an overnight audience of 15.6m viewers, if it was 14.91

Hopefully an "EastEnders" live week will be worked out so the action keeps going after the anniversary week, something Santer struggled with until his exit as Executive Producer and contributed to a downward trend that began.

Well live episodes tend to bring the punters in, if only to see who monumently messes up.

So it did, presumably any benefit from splitting it was offset by the last half hour going up against Casualty. I also remember the opening was a bit odd as it started with Ant and Dec and the judges "backstage" discussing the series and linking into clips, with the show starting properly with the opening titles about fifteen minutes in. Although everyone mentions Sir Peter Waterman storming out, he didn't do that on air, it was reported he'd flounced off after the show rather than go to the party because he thought McManus was crap and somewhere along the line this has now become folklore that he did it on air.

The rugby thing didn't seem so bizarre at the time, a few years before they'd done An Audience With Lennox Lewis after his big Tyson fight and also did an Audience With-style show with Nigel Benn and Chris Eubank before they fought each other, both on a Saturday night. Given the Rugby World Cup had all been played during the day this was presumably a way to get some primetime benefit out of it. Unfortunately what I think sunk it was that earlier in the day England had played their first match after the World Cup live on BBC1, so people were probably all rugbyed out by 9.30.



At the time, with Pop Idol and Popstars alternating every year (and at the time a Popstars III was in development), The X Factor just seemed very much like 2004's talent show. It wasn't really any kind of risk because The X Factor came across as simply a talent show greatest hits with Cowell from Pop Idol and Walsh from Popstars, plus Kate Thornton had done Pop Idol Extra on ITV2.

But presumably because Cowell owned the format, and because the priority for ITV was now keeping hold of Cowell, Cowell decided that he just wanted to do The X Factor, so if they wanted Cowell they had to have The X Factor or nothing. I thought it was a bit of a shame at the time because Pop Idol had been a pretty elegant format and The X Factor always seemed a bit clunky in terms of how it all worked, and still does, really.

Of course, the Pop Idol format was still available and a few years back there was the suggestion C5 would buy it, but minus all the personnel, natch.

Is it just me or do live soap episodes seem a bit lazy now?

It just seems to me that they could be a bit more imaginative when celebrating anniversaries.

16 acts singing for a collective 32 minutes in 2 hrs 30 mins and you claim strictly is padded, hysterical.

Well 2.5hrs will seem more of a slog than 2hrs and people have complained 2hrs was too long in the past. Dont think either are doing themselves any favours actually.

Good figure for Eastenders, although I thought the episode was pretty boring after Mondays cliffhanger. Pretty poor for eveything else.

The football did not really dent EE at all (as some on here predicted).Wouldn't ITV do better if they regionalised the games - showed the Man City match in the north and Chelsea in the south and west ? Didn't they do that at one time ?

That's a great result for EE. Poor for pretty much everything else epecially ED. That was over 6mil yestday now it's under.

EastEnders topped Tuesday evening's soap ratings (September 30) as Phil Mitchell and Sharon Rickman's wedding day continued to go wrong, overnight figures show.

Airing from the slightly earlier time of 7.25pm, the Walford drama pulled in 6.95m (35.1%) on BBC One as vengeful Shirley exposed her affair with Phil in the middle of the wedding speeches at The Vic. BBC Three's repeat screening secured 464k (3.7%) at 10.30pm.

EastEnders' audience share of 35.1% was its highest since Lucy Beale's funeral on May 21.

Emmerdale attracted 5.98m (33.0%) at 7pm on ITV and 262k (1.3%) on +1 as Jimmy continued to struggle following Juliette's shock revelation.

Holby City continued with 4.27m (20.7%) at 8pm on BBC One as the day of Harry's hearing arrived - the show's highest figure since May 13.

Hollyoaks managed 915k (5.4%) at 6.30pm on Channel 4 as Nancy and Darren's marriage hit the rocks, while E4's first look had 711k (3.9%) at 7pm and 198k (1.0%) on +1.

Over on Channel 5, Neighbours entertained 677k (11.4%) at 1.45pm and 850k (6.6%) at 5.30pm, while Home and Away mustered 272k (4.5%) at 1.15pm, 597k (3.9%) at 6pm and 348k (2.1%) with 5*'s first look at 6.30pm.

Elsewhere, Doctors appealed to 1.39m (23.6%) at 1.45pm on BBC One.

So the soap ratings Bushmills posted are wrong.

Not wrong, just not tapechecked. Emmerdale always finishes early for the football and the EE figure is just rounded.

Shows how much of an effect that has. ED getting 500k more.

And 6.3m (inc+1) isn't bad at all.

from reading an old version of this thread it seems the 14.9m fig is for the full slot and the 15.6m is for when EE was actually on air, both impressive mind.

I know EastEnders is 7m with rounding up but I would have liked to see it definitely over 7m That was a good rating for it last night though I was expecting a drop due to football.

Another Tuesday drama failure at 9pm for BBC1 with another Autumn underachiever. Thank God they're only 3 parts.

Holby City showing a bit of life and The One Show being rubbish at 7pm.

We're seeing the start of the Autumn boost for soaps or that the storylines are getting viewers in?

Fantastic figure and share for EastEnders. I predicted all the way back in January that the real increase for EE wouldn't happen until the autumn and so far I've been proven right. Its heading into a strong position now and is firmly back on track.
