The constant talk in here about Holby being weak and then The One Show being great in that timeslot is white noise to me. Neither are good enough in the timeslots they occupy.”

The way one or two posters here relentlessly keep attacking the One Show is rather tedious, the insults such as Blue Peter for kids etc are now beyond the pale on a thread for ratings, again and again the same comments are made more often than repeats on Dave.
ITV have soaps on, BBC1 wants to put something on different, yes ratings are down a bit - as we know bsr Bake off all ratings are down. The One show has great nature interest features, good health features, loverly stories, consumer interest, food, history, etc with a guest. It has raised considerable sums of money for charity, do has a loyal following.
Clearly the guests on the show feel it's one of the best outlets to promote their books and shows, ITV seem to respect the appeal as they now have regular guests on it plugging. ITV. I can't see ITV doing the same for the BBC.
PSB is to educate, entertain and inform, the BBC does all of that in one show.
Some of us do not like the ITV soaps and want an alternative. BBC1 before TOS often had repeats on, or lower rating shows. It's not setting the ratings alight but after soap and news does well for the channel.
Holby again, a few attack attack attack, but it's been rather funny recently, but again it educates the viewer on health matters, not setting the world alight on ratings but a weekly drama that against other dramas is cheaper to make. Some of us do not like football!
A lot of the BBC is PBS needs to be distinctive, and TOS does that. A lot is also about budgets, long running shows have economies of scale and are cheaper to make and hook regular viewers in. So in days of tight budgets its a logical commission and recently the BBC commissioned three years of TOS.
YES I get it, one or two here hate the One Show, please do not continuously bash away as there are others who like it.
