I was alarmed to see on TOS tonight they actually let the guests talk instead of interrupting them every few minutes with irrelevant films. This is a worrying new trend......

Turning to the subject of the U.S. late night talk show shake up
It,s of no great surprise to me that Jimmy Fallon is absolutely storming it ratings wise eight months into his Tonight Show run he,s absolutely brilliant and he dares to do things no other chat show host would do Where do you think he,s succeeding and Conan O Brian failed after Seven months-and even that was a brave try by NBC IMO And now we know Stephen Colbert is stepping into David Letterman,s shoes after he retires from CBS at some point in the next year how do you think he'll do for them in ratings terms Colbert is a bit of unknown at this point because no one seems entirely sure what his or indeed James Corden's Late Late Show is going to look like. In theory Colbert comes with a strong built in late night audience but that may not transition since he's not going to be playing the Colbert character he does on the Colbert Report and because Comedy Central will look to lock Colbert's audience in with the Minority Report long before he debuts on CBS. I'd guess he holds the line on where Letterman is about now but that may change when we find out how and when CBS intend to launch him. The real question will be whether Letterman's final run of shows next year sees his picking up some traction against the two Jimmy's . Quote:
Perhaps Channel 5 should do a production and rights tie up with USA Network in a similar way that Sky have done with HBO.

US ratings: http://tvseriesfinale.com/tv-show/we...f-laura-34188/
Weak start for Stalker with a 2.0 but slot winning for this week at least, following on from the season premier of Criminal Minds (2.7). Almost everything else down from premier week with Blackish falling the most but still with a decent 2.5, it must try stabilise now though, Fox was stable week on week (still crap though) as was Nashville. Black-ish had what I thought was a rough second episode so I'm not overly optimistic about week three stabilising. Given some of the week two drops they've seen though I do wonder if ABC might be starting to feel a little concerned about how well Thursday night is going to hold up. Obviously the Thursday line-up has more breathing room given how high it started last week but they've had some worrying drops this week. Plus they'll also likely come back down to earth on Sunday nights after the initial Frozen hype wears off on Once Upon A Time. |

Fantastic that they've finally got with the times and axed the EE Omnibus. It will sort out the issue with the Friday time shift and mean higher ratings for the 8pm showing.
Also, I imagine they're waiting till April because they want to wait until the iPlayer catchup window is extended to 30 days, and possibly closer to BBC One +1. They should really drop it sooner though. |

I suspect that the real reason the EastEnders omnibus is hanging around until April is because they're going to need to iron out some lingering issues with cast and crew regarding salaries. This will also be why its taken them so long to decide to drop it or at least officially decide.

Hmm April is the start of the financial new year so could there be a financial reason why the EastEnders omnibus is being dropped then? Repeat fees or something of that ilk?
EDIT: In regards to AlexiR's post maybe this year the salaries include the omnibus repeat but they can remove that payment from the next financial year? |

I havent seen last nights yet but last weeks just seemed to stop with no conclusion or drama/cliffhanger - it really jarred with me for some reason. Maybe they need the creator back to write some better scripts?

nearly that time of week again, nearly time for XF overnights! More exciting than the show this year! Love this place when the ratings come in.

The omnibus is so unnecessary nowadays anyway.
It'll help the show's overnights out I think, if only a tad.

EDIT - It'll actually be interesting to see what the new payment structure is since it could potentially be precedent setting in terms of factoring in viewers on iPlayer and the like to these deals. |

Similarly to wizzywick and his shop customers, you can't extrapolate from a sample of one person to the entire UK.
The audience for GBBO is very broad as we saw from the demos posted the other week. I think it was always unrealistic to expect a very large proportion to carry over into the lead-out, however many family-friendly boxes it ticked on paper. (And I agree with others that the 21:00 start time harmed the potential for maximising the family audience.) Good to see half a million added to last week's overnight for Our Zoo, albeit perhaps skewed somewhat by the Scottish football last week. And it's now beating an established former hit, Scott & Bailey, in the overnights, let us not forget. I think if it's practical, the BBC will renew. |

I hope they will start weaning it out now by sticking a film on before it, It was a poor idea to replace the film with EastEnders Omnibus in the first place.

EastEnders goes LIVE for a whole week to mark it's 30th

So EastEnders announcing a 'Live Week' to mark their 30th Anniversary. One fully live episode plus 'live elements' in each of the other episodes that week. Presumably the Lucy Beale reveal will be done live.

Very intriguing. If ratings haven't recovered by then, that should bring the viewers back. Although it probably won't get near the heights of 19m of 25th Anniversary episode.

My personal thoughts on the BBC1 Sunday line-up are pretty similar to yours but at the same time surely there's an element of counter scheduling here? With The X Factor infused Sunday line-up ITV should really be targeting younger viewers so surely it only makes sense for BBC1 to offer up a schedule geared more towards older viewers? Of course Downton Abbey rather ruins this strategy for the BBC as it makes it near impossible for them to effectively schedule the 9PM hour with the kind of comfortable Sunday drama they'd like to put there.

The problem with BBC1's Autumn Sunday schedule is that it doesn't go together. You hace Countryfile into Antiques Roadshow and then follow with a young skewing drama at 9pm. Is the Antiques Roadshow audience the type that would watch Our Girl? AR doesn't flow well into a 9pm drama. ITV on Sundays works better as it is all entertainment. BBC1 is just so dull on Autumn Sundays. Much better in Winter/Spring.

This:? 5.50pm Antiques Roadshow 6.50 Countryfile 7.50 Strictly Come Dancing 8.30 Drama (such as Our Zoo) 9.30 Comedy I see no reason why SCD and XF can't clash on Sundays. It has clashed twice already this year and will clash on Saturdays. There is also no reason why all channels must meticulously stick to starting at the same junction. It would mean that BBC1's schedule on Sundays is strengthened. |

What could BBC1 do on Autumn Sundays though? I don't disagree with you but what are their options?

Should "Doctor Who" not have aired on Sunday this year rather than be squeezed out by "Strictly" I definately think so.
6.15 Country file 7.15 Doctor Who 8.00 Our Zoo 9.00 Strictly Come Dancing Results 9.30 Bake Off An Extra Slice!! Deserves a BBC one promotion!!
