Better tonight in my opinion. More of a singing show, less of a farce. It's so inconsistent, that's the issue. Quality wise, it could be a decent year if they pick correctly.

I think the LIVE shows will be very strong this year and should be up YOY.

Would be mighty surprised if XF isn't over 7.5m tonight, probably 8m. Not only is there no Strictly clash but people caught out last week are more likely to remember this time.

Haven't yet seen XF. Watched Gogglebox and still watching HIGNFY.

I hope X Factor was decent tonight. It needs to shift focus from the Boot Camp episodes which were literally like an army boot camp.

Hopefully both are exactly flat week-on-week and year-on-year so we can all log on at 11am on Monday morning and have a page count in single figures to catch up on.

Channel 5 doesn't have to worry about Dallas as it's been cancelled by TNT. Not surprising really as it was likely expensive and not rating well. I imagine Legends and Franklin and Bash will be axed as well

Anyway, I really enjoyed TXF tonight, 100 times better than last weeks farce.

I can't see it being that high - it might just scrape 7m including +1 but the young audience which is around being split with Gogglebox won't help and last week's Sunday episode might hurt it rather than help.

Chasing Shadows premiered with an overnight of just 3.58m (inc +1) though, so in a sense it had further to gain from timeshift than Our Zoo which had 5.07m (or about 4.7m outside Scotland). Also not being shown in Scotland limited the timeshift by about -8% automatically (as no recordings of that slot in Scotland would count).

Having said all that, a timeshift of 0.4-0.5m still looks quite titchy, I agree.

Which other timeshifts have puzzled you?

Sorry for some reason I had memorised last Friday's XF figure as over 6m including +1. Yes it's not going to get 8m now I've actually got myself together. Shouldn't fall too far short of 7m though if at all.

Exactly my thoughts. TNT are in a stronger position this time round, so decisions are being made snappier than before with shows like Dallas.

How boring would that be?

Just put on X Factor on from a recording. I notice Peter Dickinson's voiceovers are back. When The X Factor is good I don't want to take my eyes off it in case I miss something - the show lost that for me in recent years but this series - for all X Factor's general, but forgiveable faults/bullshit - it's back to "rewind, you were playing on your laptop" levels for me.

And that's a good sign I think! Personally I hope TXF wins the "war" this year. Purely because fundamentally, at least in this thread, it's all panto, and because Strictly's had a strong few years and I think it's the X Factor's "turn again."

That's not to say I don't agree the formats are bit old. But then look at IAC, The Apprentice, etc - they're all in their 12th, 8th etc years. And look at IAC, it smashed it last year. Last year’s 13th series was the 2nd most watched of all, after Series 3, an astonishing result.

I'm very interested to see how The Apprentice does this time. Feels like absolutely ages since the last series so will people have moved on? I wish they were launching it with two episodes on the Wednesday to capitalise on all the silly-billies who forget that Bake Off finished the week earlier

Being later in the year should benefit it. I nearly wet myself when I saw the trailer as it felt "missing" since it was delayed for the World Cup. But then S8 was brought forward because of the Olympics, and as you can see above it's aired at various different times of the year.

Hope it does really well.

Re; X Factor, am 20 minutes in and the talent this year is really excellent in my opinion. It is clear that all the acts have had a lot of practice to get good performances at these judges houses. Only The Young are a great little group, even those two mini-Bieber twins and Blonde Electra were decent so far. Now all the joke acts are gone all the vocals etc are impressive IMO. And this is just the groups, who are traditionally poorer

With great talent and likeable contestants, plus free voting and refreshed live shows, I think X Factor will do much better this year, it certainly stands to. Definitely Team X Factor this year after a 4 year break!

Dallas is over? That's a shame as I thought it was good. Ratings were poor though so it's no surprise.
