ITV could also air the show later in the Autumn / away from the Summer of 2015, stripping auditions across 5 weeknights rather than consecutive weeks.
There's a momentum issue. XF's live shows should start around the same time as Strictly's Another option is moving XF to Sunday nights with 2 shows: 19:00 - The X Factor 20:30 - Sunday Night at The Palladium 21:30 - The X Factor Results 22:00 - News at Ten But that would obviously raise questions about where to put Downton Abbey, etc. -sigh- But... they could switch it to Sunday and Monday nights. BBC One tends to skew older on Sunday's and lacks a 9m show on Monday to dent The X Factor.
Spoiler
That would leave Saturday's barren though. |

Poor from the Xfactor jeez
what's happening to this show, before xfactor was like this powerful show which constantly got good ratings and it's ratings didn't drop unlike other shows did, but to see the decline this year Strictly got brill ratings. Not been a good week for itv really has it, it's 2 biggest shows beaten by shows on BBC (EE/SCD)

To be fair I think you make some good and valid points there, however I still think we need to wait and see how the live shows rate before proclaiming a terminal decline.

Dont worry - I would bet all your money on The Voice being well down this year.

The problem with X Factor is SC. I would watch it but for me his arrogance is a total turn off for me. I know it is his creation but he must fall on his sword to help the ratings.

Thanks.
![]() It doesn't look QUITE so bad looking at those breakdowns. Those figures don't match what was posted earlier - I presume this is excluding +1? ![]() ![]() The +1 figure was down quite a bit on last week. It's not really the comparison with last week that's bad - it's a fairly minor change. It's the year on year one which is the first time a Saturday show has posted a notable decline this series. |

He could pull the plug on the show but that would leave itv high and dry on what to put to on in its place such is their heavy investment in the programme

That rating is atrocious for the x factor to be honest however In its defence I think having the Friday episode has not helped matters.
SCD had everything in its favour last night almost zero competition I mean YBF and The chase etc. Also if people have been watching for 90 mins they are not going to flick over at 8pm etc. X factor is facing a resurgent casualty and popular doctor who. however X factor still has the highest rated show of either series this year and topped last weekend against countryfile which had 5 million viewers etc. tonight is crucial if they get back to about 8.5 - 9 million they will be ok. |

Complete reversal of last week with a really strong Strictly number which is flat year on year. And this week it's X Factor which is down 1m to a frankly awful rating and continuing its pattern of being all over the place this series. Although I have a feeling tonight won't be much better - the judges houses stage needs work, IMO. The Sunday rating last year showed that.

Fair point but I don't think the Friday shows helped momentum - almost as though people thought 'I missed one; I'm not as involved now'. Last Saturday's show was also down year-on-year; that statistic was lost slightly as Strictly saw a harsher decline.

It's only a 10 minute show to be fair.
.....ofcourse its probably the biggest "if" there is. |

To switch up discussions on here let's say The X Factor is doomed and ITV will let it go after the current contract expires. What will they replace it with?
Will they move Britain's Got Talent from the spring? Or air a second series a year? Will they bring back Pop Idol or Popstars and hope that nostalgia helps with the show? Have they (highly unlikely) got the next big thing up their sleeves? I think starting the series in October and running to February might be an idea, but I don't think they'll move it out of the autumn altogether because they need something that pulls in viewers leading up to Christmas. They don't have anything else at the moment except for BGT, and there's just the risk that'll end up getting killed by SCD, and in any case it has far fewer episodes than TXF. |

Jenny Cummins @jscummins · Saw quite a bit of calling for Barlow's return on Twitter. Not sure if it was ironic...
Last night's @TheXFactor peaked with 8.6 million viewers #JudgesHouses |

People are getting hysterical on here. There's no way ITV are going to cancel a show that can still top 9 million in officials. It's far more likely that they will negotiate a cheaper deal with Syco next time. It definitely had a bad night last night but let's wait and see how the lives do. It's almost certainly going to be down YOY again this year, but that doesn't mean it is finished. It's still one of the biggest shows on television for goodness sake. Yes, it used to be the biggest. I don't think anyone disagrees that it's not as big as it used to be, and no one expects it to ever start beating SCD.
I think starting the series in October and running to February might be an idea, but I don't think they'll move it out of the autumn altogether because they need something that pulls in viewers leading up to Christmas.
