Great share for CBBBOTS, up on last summer in terms of percentage. Did viewers stick around for live feed as well? If so well above average shares for C5 across best part of 4 and a half hours.

That is fantastic for Judge Rinder. I expect a quick commission from ITV. It should mean a solid 1.5-2m in the Autumn/Winter. And within a week that slot has risen from a low of 350k to 1m+.

Tipping Point doing well, Gift Wrapped not so much. Terrible rating for GW.

Looks like drama on ITV could survive next too New Tricks. Chasing Shadows could be first. Granchester if on Monday could be the drama to do what CTM did to DOI.

Doesn't look like Chasing Shadows is going on Mondays, I think that might be starting on Thursday 4th September.

I wouldn't get too excited as New Tricks even at that level is still a strong drama, but it does give ITV dramas more of a fighting chance to do well if it doesn't improve. Not sure where Grantchester will go but Mondays do seem likely. Although I think Cilla might be up first.

I'd argue that Judy Murray is a big success in her own right and therefore famous in her field. (As are many people on Strictly, they have cricketers, sports stars etc.. that I might not have heard of but they are famous for those who follow the sport.) She's captain of the British Fed Cup Team, a major figure in British Tennis and people do know who she is (Mainly due to Andy but still) Would she be on Strictly if it wasn't for Andy, maybe not, but to compare her to Kelly Brook's new bit on the side is diminishing her achievements imo

That said, The CBB line up looks pretty good on paper, a few tentpole signings and then the rest of the Z listers to pad it out is pretty much standard for any reality TV show and its no worse than some of the IACGMOOH line ups for me

Just curious to know how the audience developed across its lengthy timeslot. With a 2105 start behind other major channels it must have started very low. Was it closer to last year's launch in the 10PM hour?

Nope, it started in July last year. In fact, every series of New Tricks since 2008 has started in July or August (except 2010).

Actually NT has started later this year because of the summer sport. Last year it started on 30th July. This year it has a much more competetive slot thats why its down. Love the overeaction though.

Overreaction? I'm fairly sure last night was New Tricks' lowest ever overnight rating across all 11 series! This is despite the fact that Monday has always been its best day by far. The competition was hardly that tough, Long Lost Family would have managed 4 million at best and CBB is pretty unlikely to have dented New Tricks. New Tricks has faced lots of ITV dramas in the past and rated a damn sight better than it did last night. It's a real shocker of a launch for it and frankly I'm surprised there hasn't been more of a reaction. If Doc Martin launched with a rating like that we'd never hear the end of it!

Apart from the one person who suggested ITV go in for the kill now it's vulnerable, I don't think there has been an overreaction. It lost nearly two milion viewers when most expected business as usual and a 7M+ rating. If Downton Abbey for example was to lose that many viewers for no apparent reason it would also get talked about in much the same way because it's a lot of viewers for a normally very dependable drama to lose.

Emmerdale rose further in the ratings on Monday evening (August 18) with the continued fallout from Donna Windsor's tragic death, overnight figures show.

The show pulled in 5.95m (33.0%) at 7pm on ITV - its highest figure since June 16 - as Ross remained in turmoil and Marlon had to break the news of Donna's demise to April.


Emmerdale was neck-and-neck with EastEnders, which also had 5.95m (27.7%) at 8pm on BBC One as Ian continued his attempts to hide his dirty secret. BBC Three's repeat screening secured 274k (1.9%) at 10.30pm.

Coronation Street was the most-watched soap of the day, attracting 6.84m (35.2%) at 7.30pm on ITV and 155k (0.7%) on +1 as jailed Peter blew his chance to rebuild his relationship with Simon. The audience increased slightly to 6.85m (31.3%) at 8.30pm and 172k (0.7%) on +1 as Neil's desperation left Andrea concerned.

Elsewhere, Hollyoaks topped the 1 million mark on Channel 4 for the first time since June 4, claiming 1.04m (6.2%) at 6.30pm on Channel 4 as Peri started to rebel. E4's first look followed with 726k (4.0%) at 7pm and 123k (0.6%) on +1.

Over on Channel 5, Kathy's discovery of Paige's true identity in Neighbours gave the show its best lunchtime rating since January, bringing in 740k (10.3%) at 1.45pm. 761k (5.9%) caught the teatime screening at 5.30pm.

Home and Away mustered 281k (3.8%) at 1.15pm, 516k (3.3%) at 6pm and 342k (2.0%) with 5*'s first look at 6.30pm.

BBC One's Doctors continued with 1.27m (17.9%) at 1.45pm.

Do you not think 5.8m is low for New Tricks? I was expecting 7m+. If Doc Martin returned with that figure I would be shocked.

When XF was down there was plenty of 'overreaction' as you put it.


BTW I wasn't suggesting ITV kill off New Tricks, but that drama could rate well on ITV opposite it.

Poor for corrie and EastEnders - particular low share for EE and the 8:30pm Corrie.

I think audiences have gotten used to doing other things in the evening, after the dismal summer TV we have had.

For NT, there is an apparent reason though - this is not NT of old with the likes of Alun Armstrong, James Bolam and Amanda Redman. This is almost a new show with new characters, but based upon the old one. The team is a new one apart from one character. The old team dynamic has gone, and along with it so have some viewers I guess. A new team dynamic will have to be built, however on the basis oif the last series, that dynamic was missing (as was the comedy), and that is likely to have hurt.

New Tricks Mk II will need time to rebuild itself and attract back those lost viewers.

I agree. This is a serious blow for New Tricks on any basis - losing around a quarter of its previous season premiere audience cannot just be brushed off. It may be, of course, that the (for some of us at least) immensely long summer of sport has turned some people away from the habit of watching BBC1 for a bit - it's certainly months now since I have found much of interest to me on the channel.

We'd still expect, I'm sure, ratings to pick up as the evenings draw in, but perhaps we have seen another drop in the "floor" for BBC1 - so EE will no doubt bounce back to somewhere in the 7 and 8 million range over the winter, but perhaps will never again see 10m, while NT may bounce back above 6 or even 7 million but never again trouble 9m. Just as we will never again see EE above 15 or 20m. There's so much more to watch on all the other channels...

Anyway, the officials for NT will be particularly interesting - will it get a 2m+ timeshift to make all this moot (I doubt it, but 1 m+ is certainly possible) or will it get a comparatively poor timeshift like The Village?

Well I'm not surprised about the New Tricks rating at all. It was a very competitive night, the soaps are down massively on last year, the promotion was that great and as ever more and more people are moving towards time shifted viewing.

It's poor yes but not a surprise at all. I expect it will timeshift close if not over 7m. Doc Martin had exactly the same problem last year.

Edit. Also remember their was football on Sky last night as well. It wasn't a massive game but enough to dent things.
