No wind-up, honestly. I dont know about London, but a few years ago I spent some time in Kent and Essex and it was very noticeable there. It's also prominent on many TV shows on which south-easteners feature. Of course they would say they don't know what I'm talking about as they think it's normal.
Changing the subect, I'd just like to have a small rant about shoelaces made of shiny, slippy-slidy material that JUST WON'T STAY TIGHT! I tie the bow just as I have always done, but after a few hundred yards I'm feeling the shoes working loose.
But Australians have a connection with us!....sometimes a cornish person sounds American to me |

I wear trainers sometimes when on holiday in the US, but they don't have shiny laces.

Anyone noticed how common 'hubs' have become? The housing centre near here is suddenly a 'community hub' and I've just had a letter from an NHS 'hub'.

I hate when people dont reply to your messages/emails and you wonder what you did wrong?
![]() I invited someone to my birthday thing the other week and they never replied or texted me or anything

The Australian way?? I've tried again and again to pronounce it as you've spelt it, and the closest I can come is to make it sound like a Northern Ireland accent.

Rising intonation? I don't know if it was invented in Australia? But I heard it pisses off the older Australian Generation too?
It certainly pisses me off? |

Standing behind someone at a cash machine pees me off when they seem to be going through a collection of cards - checking balances etc.

That annoys me too. It takes me all of about 5 seconds at a machine from inserting the card but anyone in front has to go through the rigmarole of digging in their handbag beforehand, getting out their purse, selecting an option really slowly which seems to take forever, collecting money, unzipping purse, putting money in/zipping up purse, putting in bag, only then do they go away.
![]() ![]() ....I’ll try to speed-up a bit in future;..............damn these arthritic fingers.

People who can't wait ten minutes in queues at shops/cash machines without getting in a pother.
Why don't they use the time to think pleasant thoughts instead of directing evil ones at people who may live alone (and the contact with the sales assistant is the only contact they have all day), or have problems with eyesight or, indeed, arthritic hands, which make them slow. |

I actually don't mind this, my mum was mugged when she moved away from a cash machine to put the things in her bag so someone else could use it. I would rather people put their money away safely and securely even if it means I wait an extra 30 seconds.

Sleep paralysis. Was having a dream where someone was slapping me, but I couldn't move. Scary!

I know what he means by the "Australian way" (something like nah-ee for no), but I've never heard Brits say it like that.
Perhaps it's just me, I'm sorry. Last edited by Phil_Sheridan : 07-06-2015 at 21:07. Reason: Corrected typo |

Congratulations on the new job bbclassics; really happy for you. I've been following your ups and downs via this thread and have been really rooting for you to catch a break!
![]() In answer to the thread my trivial annoyance atm is when people scrape their plates very loudly with knives and forks *shudders. |

The Magnum adverts - anyone who makes that much noise with an ice cream needs to have it forcibly removed from them and be given a good slap.

I hate that as well. I've posted proper invitation cards for our joint birthday party at the beginning of July to about forty people giving my mobile number and email address with RSVP request: so far, I've had half a dozen verbal acceptances and two text messages.
