Just what the hell is that about...high-flying? bugs the bejeezus out of me when someone says something like 'she's a high-flying career woman'...ffs

Unnecessary road closures.

In my area last week a poor guy had a heart attack, fell off his bike, and died. The police closed the road for two-and-a-half hours for investigations.

Why? What was there to investigate? I just don't get it.

I hate it when a "job" is described as a "role". You're not an actor playing a part; well, maybe you are...

That would be me. I've got nothing that interesting to say. I spend most of my time in groups, talking about running and other crap.

I always think it's cruel giving a kid a name they're not going to know how to spell at school (well, in their early years at any rate)

Parents who pick up their kids from school and park everywhere, and I mean everywhere. No consideration for other road users/pedestrians.
And the ones that suddenly drive right out into main roads not looking where they are going or indicating.

Hypocritical people. The lady at the work programme had a go at me for being (5 mins) late. I had enough and told her it was a bit rich coming from her as she has messed up our last 4 appointments.
Like the time she gave my appointment away to someone else and also when she wrote the wrong date on my card.
Not to mention the countless times she has swanned in late (from lunch with her colleagues) - slowly checking emails during my appointment time and ignoring me despite being told that I have arrived and am waiting.

The first time I attended she denied that I had turned up to my appointment but went rather quiet when I showed her the sign-in book with my name/time in it.

They love to moan at you but don't like it when I give them a taste of their own medicine. I expect to somehow be 'punished' for speaking out but ya know what it was worth it - to see that smug look wiped from her face.

I have an interview this morning, no sorry a group assessment then they tell us if we have an interview, for a job I don't really want but I can't really pull out of it as it's with work. I have another interview next week for a job I actually do want and am waiting to hear back about another job.

This thing this morning is for the next stage up in the job I am actually doing but I hate it and am desperate to leave.

People on Twitter who, when you correct them on something (perfectly politely), remove their original tweet. It's not a petty points-scoring thing on my part, but they should leave it up so my reply makes sense

Maybe if I "quoted" rather than replied it would stay up there.

Horseflies. Trivial to some perhaps, but to me a truly deadly enemy. I find it difficult to express the extent of my hatred for these damned things. Once one's homed in on you it will not leave you alone until you kill it. If two attack you at once you risk dislocating limbs or beating yourself senseless. If more than two attack you at once you might as well kill yourself and get it over with.

They do have one chink in their armour, which I have discovered while fishing. If you sit under a large fishing umbrella they will always settle on the inside of the fabric, where the best method of picking them off is to fire the unloaded pouch of a catapult at them. If you're walking, a large, hand-held umbrella might work, but you might feel a bit silly (not that you'd care).

They are silent and tend to circle around your head before choosing their spot. They are incredibly difficult to swipe with your hand, but can sometimes survive a direct hit. If you miss, they will simply fly around you and come straight back from another angle. They will never go away and will just follow you until you kill them. Just as bad are the ones that land silently and unseen on bare legs. You often don't feel it until it's well embedded, but by that time you are doomed to suffer a bite than can swell to the size of a bantam's egg.

They are most active in hot and humid weather – just like it is at the moment.

Bank tellers. I'll go in to pay in some money and towards the end of the transaction they'll start looking at their screen as though they're getting alerts from on high...

'We notice you're eligible for a credit card, Mr X'
'Do you have a mortgage with us Mr X'
etc, etc.

No I just want to pay in some money, not go over my entire financial history over the past 7 yrs

I love DS - I really do. I enjoy wandering the boards and reading other people's stuff. But what I HATE is when I see posts littered with "lol". The comments before and after the "lol" aren't funny at all, and putting "lol" at the start or end just doesn't change that fact.

I know someone who ended up as "Melony" because her dad wanted to call her Melody, but her mother thought this wasn't a "real name" so they compromised. When she turned 18 she legally changed it to the more conventional Melanie ... but that doesn't make up for a lifetime of having to constantly correct people on the spelling

I'm not sure I've ever written it though expressed the same with an emoticon, largely I am against all this SMS-inspired gobbledygook, it just breeds laziness.

I know a woman who was christened as Leslie instead of Lesley. Now that does cause confusion.

When I worked in a library, there was a mum who registered her son who was Leee to be different there was also some hyphenated names e.g. Christina-Britney and other singers

Definitely creepy those things.
