Numerous messages/texts I've received this evening 'before I get too, drunk, before the lines get jammed etc, I'd like to wish you a Happy New Year'...i don't know why it annoys me so much but it does!

Why coke out of a 2 litre bottle doesn't taste as nice as it does out of a can

If I never hear the words 'triggered' or 'snowflake' again won't be soon enough.

People who have Twitter handles like they're a fictional character in the an MSN chat room in the 90s.

If you're name is Richard Westfield then use some variation of that. @FlibertyHorse isn't amusing.

Curious...I understand the snowflake thing but triggered? As in the usual triggered e.g. the strobe effect triggered the seizure or is there a modern, overused triggered I'm not aware of?

That is so true - been saying that for years. Those individual bottles are the worst - what are they, 800ml or whatever. My husband thinks I'm mad that I won't drink those and insist on cans but there's definitely a difference.

Triggered means being confused by someone who's not particularly bright.

It comes from the character Trigger in Only Fools and Horses.

Of course, I may have just made that up!

Am I being triggered? Cos I feel like I'm being triggered?

Triggered was previously used in a fairly serious way, for example, perhaps before an article discussing rape, it was used as a warning that the article could 'trigger' emotions that you don't want 'triggered'. Fair enough.

Recently it's been hijacked by the same people that use 'snowflake' and used in a derogatory way to have a go at anyone who might show any sort of political correctness or emotion, as in when someone gets offended about anything, they are said to be triggered, they're a snowflake who needs their own 'safe space' because they're easily upset.

Could be used something like this: 'Aww, are you triggered, you special snowflake'.

Basically a simple way for those lacking any sort of debating skills to put you down without having to have any sort of argument.

Re people who get offended by anything and are easily upset - What's the alternative, to indulge these people? They're toxic. The last thing I'd want to do is start debating with them and give them a platform to pontificate from. Some people just won't walk on eggshells around those who are easily upset and take offence at anything. It's nothing to do with a lack of debating skills.

Fair enough if it was used against people who get offended by everything, I haven't got time to walk on eggshells myself, but it's not just being used that way now. It's being used to shut down anyone who has the slightest empathy or sympathetic feelings about anything. I've seen more and more of it over the past few months and find it quite nasty.

By saying I find it quite nasty I guess it's triggered me and I'm a snowflake! See what I mean.

*edit - Just read back what I posted earlier and what you highlighted - when I said 'get offended by anything', I didn't mean it how it came across, I meant if someone gets offended by any thing, meaning any one thing in particular, not get offended by everything as you took it, badly worded by me.

To add to this list, I really don't like anything about New Year. The fake enjoyment, the need to celebrate the start of another year, having to pay quadruple prices to go anywhere, and the insistence of my wife that I stay up past 12 to see it in. Just let me sleep ffs. Auld Lang Syne truly does double my blood pressure instantly. Jools Holland might as well push a little harder so he completely disappears up his own hole too.

Hate it all. Passionately.

Never drink anything stored in plastic due to the chemical transfer, hense the strange taste. That said, Coke will probably kill you long before the plastic gets you.

Thank for the explanation. That's a new one to me.

People who are offended by things trending on Twitter such as #heterosexualpride or #whitehistorymonth and then ensure it keeps trending by hashtagging it themselves. If you scroll through these hashtagged tweets you'll find 99% of them are people saying "OMG I can't believe this is actually trending." #heterosexualpride "I don't want to live on this planet any more" #whitehistorymonth.

Stop hashtagging it and it will stop trending you twits!

Equally people who ask why something (such as a terror attack in a non-western country) isn't trending when it's actually at number one. Or why they are only hearing about the attack via twitter, when it's front page news.

People who had the horn for calling 2016 the year of celebrity deaths so much that they reacted to the death of some 93 year old former extra of a television show not on the air for 40 years as some kind of tragic addition to the list.

I'm not saying 2016 wasn't a bad year for famous people dying but half the names were people nobody (in this country at least) has ever heard of. In the end it was getting a bit desperate and you got people saying how worse 2016 got when the wife of the man who's sister composed the theme tune to a 1950s Canadian TV series passed away.

Get a grip.

People who say Christmas lunch.

I have no objection to the word. We all have lunch on a daily basis when at work etc. But for some reason I still think it's at least the one meal of the year that is still dinner, not lunch.

Having an absolute funk this week so every little thing is annoying me, but I'd like to add two more things: the worship of Beyoncé as a "feminist icon" when she's anything but, and how dark 'House of Cards' is on Netflix. I get that it's meant to be all atmospheric and everything, but I'd much rather see what's actually happening on screen. It's almost a relief whenever a character gets hospitalised - at least the lighting is better in those scenes!

People on FB who say "Imma" instead of "I'm going to..." like "Imma go sleep" or something
Self pitying idiots making out that women are terrible/evil for rejecting them, maybe it's because you're an annoying ponce full of your own self importance.
