I won't reveal the subject matter. All you need to know is VD only cares about herself and ratings.”

Well it is her job to discuss difficult issues. Perhaps you should just retreat to your safe space.

Pointless.

I can't stand it. It's on every single day in life and I am sick to the back teeth of it.

So why watch it? (I'm assuming you mean the TV show!)

When singers have annoying habits (affectations?), like nodding their head, wagging a finger, winking at the camera, oversinging by fitting as many notes in as possible...

I don't. It just seems that on the odd occasion that anyone in this house switches the TV on, bloody Pointless is on!

Well, I can't understand it. Every evening after dinner I sit down at 5.45pm to wait for the news, and it is on, of course. The contestants are gormless, Alexander Armstrong is gormless, and I shall never understand how a clearly clever bloke like Richard Osman became embroiled in this tat.

And I still can't get hold of the thrust of the game. Pointless!

It was a week old subject that, by being raised, served no purpose apart from further fueling the problem, and her excuse: it's her job, so screw the consequences.

My safe place is avoiding the cows show, so consider me retreated.

So the only time anyone switches on the TV in your house is between 5.15pm and 6pm?

Re. Pointless

Pointless is on for 45 minutes a day, so if my maths is correct this is 3.125% of a 24 hour period. Impossible to avoid obviously, it's not as if there are other channels as well.. oh hang on!

I hate the words 'hun', 'bro' and 'bruv', makes the user sound utterly gormless!

Jeezus!

Yes, I more or less implied that we don't watch much TV in the house and no, I don't necessarily look at the clock before switching the TV on.

It just so happens that almost every time I happen to decide to switch the TV on, it's sodding Pointless that's on!

Forgive me, I thought this thread was about "trivial things", which annoy me intensely.... so why is that that when I post about a "trivial thing that annoys me intensely", I end up getting this gratuitously sarcastic treatment, as if I really should know better?

FFS!

EDIT: Tell you what - mark that down as another one. People telling you off for posting on topic!

The word 'bae'. It appears to be a shortened version of babe which takes the same amount of effort to say anyway as it has the same amount of syllables.

What is it with young people inventing new words. I'm only 38 but I feel like an OAP with some of these new trendy words most of which I don't understand

I take enormous pleasure in refusing to acknowledge the existence of such words.

I don't mean to stick the knife in, but I also don't understand the complaint. I mean, you say Pointless is usually on when you switch the TV on - and? Do you only have one channel? Seeing as it's on whenever you turn on the TV, you're obviously doing so at similar times each day. I don't think it's on 24/7...

That's like me saying "Pft, every time I switch on LBC during my lunch hour, that twunk James O'Brien is on. So annoying".

I don't consciously switch the TV on at the same point every day. I sometimes don't switch it on at all. In fact I can go for days without doing so. It's also not necessarily me who switches on the television.

It just seems to be the case that whenever anyone does switch it on, it's on BBC1 and Pointless is on - no matter what day of the week it happens to be.

It's just one of those shows that end up annoying me because it's been going on for far too long. I think it's been on for about seven years now and it's relentless.

I really don't understand why this is causing such consternation. I do realise that it's a coincidence that whenever I just happen to switch on the TV, Pointless is on... but can you all just not allow me to be annoyed by it AS PER THE THREAD TITLE, instead of berating me for it?

Exactly, what's the point of a thread about trivial things that annoy you if people are going to criticise you for being annoyed at trivial things

One of mine at the moment is people that leave the toilet door wide open at work, there is no inner door so you see the toilet. This is mainly the men's toilet wgich is the first thing you see when you get to the top of the stairs

Yes! Although I'm up early for work most days, it annoys me when I can't go back to sleep on my day off.

It was obvious what you were talking about. It's the same phenomenon I've witnessed with Kerrang TV, they're always playing American Idiot by Green Day. Fortunately it's my favourite song so I'm perfectly happy with it.

People saying "I won't lie" or "I'm not going to lie". Someone said it on a programme I was watching last night - I never thought you were going to lie, so why the disclaimer?

I know this is unreasonable, as it's only a variant of "to be honest", which I use myself all the time, but it still annoys.

I've only seen it on TV as yet - not in real life.

Osman became embroiled in this tat because in his role as Creative Director at Endemol UK he was on the team that created a quiz format called "Obviously" which was commissioned by the BBC as "pointless" he appears on screen as he did that role when they had a run through to demonstrate the format to the BBC and they suggested he continued that role on screen.

And if you can't get hold of the thrust of the game Pointless, how do you cope with difficult things like tying your shoelaces?

Oh, and instead of waiting for the news watching pointless, you could go to ITV+1 and catch the end of tipping point, that's an even simpler format and will redefine your opinions of gormless. Or you could sit down to watch the news bang on 6pm, it's never going to come on early, and modern TVs don't need to warm up as the old ones did.
