This may be the case with Marvel too, but
How DC, since the New 52 date, release pretty much everything in compilation / trade paperback versions about 6 months after the comic release. It bugs me cos if I would only wait those 6 months I could save ~50% of my monthly outlay. I wish DC would make buying individual issues more enticing so I didn't feel so...... maybe ripped off is too strong a term, but I'm definitely got the grumbles. ![]() ... and when I say everything, I mean.... EVERYTHING !!! - don't know if Marvel do it too, but it makes me reluctant to try a new series because I think, "hey why not just wait for the TPB and save billions (ish)" - and if others are feeling that too then these newbies won't get a good ordering and thus get cancelled. |

..... and another thing: I thought I'd buy some decent looking wrapping paper. Lovely gold pattern, nice and thick - yeah, too bl**dy thick! Now my presents look as tho they have been wrapped by a five year old because the paper just wouldn't fold properly and make nice tidy corners. Grrrr!!

... and another thing:
A couple of years ago I bought one of those tokens which can be used instead of a one pound coin in shopping trollies. It was attached to my key ring and proved to be very useful when shopping at Sainsbury and one or two other stores but NOT Tesco I have found. Apparently, according to other Tesco shoppers the token is too small and even tho it releases the trolly it then falls out, so now I have a handy little clip on my keyring but no blo**dy token.

This one isn't really trivial but I suppose that compared with what's happening in the States at the moment it qualifies as such...
The Police For the past few months my town has been plagued by a gang of 15-16 year olds. What started as a few episodes of verbal abuse and the odd bit of petty vandalism has escalated in the last two weeks to daily occurrences of serious criminal damage and four separate cases of assault, all involving a group of 5 or 6 on one, single vulnerable person. Three of those assaults have resulted in a stay in hospital. Everyone in the town knows who they are and everyone knows their names and has given them to the police. However, apart from the one assault that nearly killed a 67 year old, the police have done the square root of bugger all! Nothing at all. A few weeks ago a friend of mine had the bastards (the kids, not the police) storm into her pub on a weekday evening when it was quiet and she was there on her own. They wrecked the place. The pub is well covered by CCTV so she thought that the police would have plenty to go on and sort the problem. No chance. The Police turned up and told her that her licence was at risk because she allowed underaged kids in her pub. No interest in the damage, no interest in the cameras...she was the criminal because there were "children" in her pub. This evening my brother - a mediumwig in local politics - cornered some officers in a kebab shop (well where else can you find the police apart from somewhere that sells food?) He asked them what they are doing about the problem, they replied "nothing". He asked them what they are going to do about the problem, they replied "nothing". When he asked what will happen when they pick on the wrong person and end up spread over the pavement like Marmite on hot, buttered toast they said "we can't allow vigilantism". Bunch of fat, lazy, good for nothing wasters the lot of them. I can say with all honesty, not only have I never personally received any assistance from the police nor do I know anyone who as ever received any assistance from the police but I don't even know anyone who knows anyone who has ever received any assistance from the police. When you consider that's only two steps away from Kevin Bacon that's a lot of people. (I should probably point out here that I have never been in any trouble with the police either. This isn't a "they keep arresting me for committing crimes" rant, it's a "other bastards are committing crimes and the people who are supposed to be dealing with it aren't" rant!) Merry Christmas everyone! |

When you get sliced bread, wrapped in a plastic bag twisted round at the top and secured with sticky tape, and it's impossible to remove the tape without tearing the bag.
The paper case thing around a pannetone is maddening - loads of the cake ends up stuck to it. It was quite an effort to get to my pannetone this year - there was an outer layer of gift wrap with ribbon that needed scissors to get through, a box to tear apart, and I scratched myself on the wire tie around the cellophane it was twisted so tightly. These cakes look lovely all wrapped up but once you cut them - what a mess. |

However, on their Facebook page the local police are quite proud of the fact that they are tackling the problem of people parking in the wrong place when they pick their kids up from Karate at the old church hall. |

When you are in a queue of say 10 people. The front person moves to the counter. The queue moves up, but the person two places in front of you DOESN'T MOVE. leaving a big space.

In our local post office in Birkenhead, there are counters (number 1 and 2) to the left side of the queue and counters 3 to 6 at the front of the queue.
The announcement "Cashier number one please" is heard. The person at the front of the queue stands there for ages looking bewildered, trying to spot cashier number one.

Our 16-year-old.
You want to stay at your friend's place this Wednesday? lol. No. From that point this morning, all we hear from him: "It's not fair", "Why are you ruining my life?", "You're oppressing my rights", "You're so unreasonable", "You can't stop me going!", "All my best mates will be there", "I'm sixteen. Old enough to do what I want", "This is stupid", "I have to go!" and "What you're doing is child abuse." He's not twigged on that the only way he could get us let him go is share the actual details. But so far, he's not willing to share beyond his painfully obvious white lie ("We're going to play video games and stuff, that's all."). He takes after his father, who isn't good at faking either. We'll see if he can figure it out before it's too late. I wish he isn't such a noisy drama queen, though.
