I have recently moved to a Android phone and since get about three text messages from the above sender each morning over a ten to fifteen minute period. The text message contains what appears to be a area code (0117, 0454) and nothing else.

Anyone know what they are?

In Windows Phone I could block a number (text or call) by long pressing and selecting the block option. How do I do this in Android?

Thanks for any help.

Call blocking isn't available on some Android OS, you can download a call blocker app and there are plenty on google play

They are cell broadcast messages rather than regular texts and will be from Vodafone if they are on channel 50. You just need to find where to turn cell broadcast off on your phone.

Years ago these were used so you knew where you could get discounted calls either to a certain area code or zone. Although they are no longer of any use, some of the older sites still broadcast them. O2 also had this and some sites still broadcast them but on channel 200 instead of 50.

Thanks for the info. The lack of call and text blocking is a pain, back to receiving PPI calls and text's the!

For the texts forward them to 7726 with the sender's number and the network will try to block them. If you're with Voda, the number is 87726.
