Hi All,
My wife, who has never used one before, would like to try one out.It would only be used for web browsing, email, kindle e-reading,possibly Sky Go.
I use a ipad and have no experience of other tablets,so looking for your advice.I was thinking about the Kindle Fire HD7 or the new Asus Memo Pad which seems to getting good reviews?

Cheers...Phil.

I don't think Sky Go is available on Kindle Fire?

Kindles are fine, but I find that the Kindle store does not have the same range of software as the basic GooglePlay you get with standard Android. Obviously there are ways around, but for a first timer I think a decent Android like Asus, Samsung or Nexus would be better.

E-reading is best done on a Kindle Paperwhite as the battery will last a month between charges.

E-reading on the Kindle Fire HD/HDX will suck the life out of the battery in a couple of days. The build quality and screen resolution on the HD/HDX are excellent but Amazon have reduced the capability of these units so effectively that after a couple of days you'll be wondering why you bought it.

Go for an ASUS, Panasonic or Acer instead and read Kobo and Kindle books on it via an app. BTW, the Kindle HD/HDX don't allow you access to Google's App Store..

Owning a Kindle Fire is like buying a speedboat when you live in Birmingham
