I have a two year old Samsung Galaxy S3 on Android 4.3, which is now slow as a cart horse. I've tried resetting, removing apps, changing settings, etc... to no avail, so I'd now like to root it and add a custom ROM.

Trouble is, I can't seem to find an EASY way to do this. I've read that XDA forums are a good place to start, but every thread in there seems way too complicated/technical.

Does anyone know of anywhere I can find an absolute idiots guide to adding custom roms??

Pretty simple way of doing it here. http://www.cyanogenmod.org/
You will need your PC as well though, but it is probably the simplest way of doing it.

I tried that last week. First problem I had was an error message saying it couldn't communicate with the phone, and after that was fixed I got a message saying it had successfully installed but as soon as I re-booted my phone I got 2 options onscreen asking which ROM to use - and choosing either 1 or 2 just loaded the stock rom back up!!

Try asking on the Cyanogenmod forums then, someone will have an answer for you there.

I don't want to appear rude but if you can't get the CyanogenMod installer to work then you should not try anything more complex as there is a real risk in bricking your phone. I would try a factory reset and see how you feel about your phone then. I have recently set up a couple of S3s and you couldn't describe them as slow so the chances are your phone has become full of crap.

http://androidforums.com/boost-mobil...oot-guide.html would be a good place to start. If you follow instructions exactly there is little (or no) chance things will go wrong
