Dont get me wrong, I like light hearted scenes whether its comedy or sweet. But that whole swimming scene was just ridiculous, this sort of corny dribble does not belong on shows like Eastenders....

Eastenders for me has always been the best at subtle comedy (Zainab, Denise, Ian), but the Carters are completely ruining the show with their cheap, cringe and "in your face" attempts at comedy and corny scenes. I am sure people wont like me saying this since Mick is lusted upon (for some strange reason)

Agreed. It was nice to see some lightheartedness.

It was like being in G-A-Y- tacky, cheesy and very camp.

I never thought I'd see Danny Dyer singing "Mama" by The Spice Girls and cheering to "Roar" by Katy Perry.

Its not just one episode, they are an extremely cheesy family in general. There was another episode where they were fixated about a dog giving birth, and then the whole karaoke and Lee hiding in the box nonsense.

The Carters are hardly the perect family.

But I agree that scene was over the top and out of place.

I find Mick really cheesy/cringe sometimes and Danny is way OTT at times with it. In general they are fine but Mick needs to stop with the nonsense

You have a short memory. The Slaters did kareoke back in the noughies that could out-cringe the Carters any day.
Kat & Alfie have frequently been cheesy. Dont start me on Little Mo.

Alfie is cheesy, not Kat... The difference is Kat recognizes that Alfie is cheesy, and the cheese wasn't excessive because of Kat, which is why they were lovable... The carters are portrayed as a something that is supposed to be a normal family. Its just a bit much since they take over a large proportion of the episode.

Zainab subtle? Lol i found her to be highly unamusing and anything but subtle. Ian is funny to laugh at, and sometimes with i guess. I agree on the whole swimming story. I mean it would be cool if that was just part of Danny Dyer's character, but to make a whole storyline out of it is ridiculous.

I dont even think the actor himself is convinced of his own character

I meant Zainabs relationship with Denise, I loved the sarcastic digs they made at each other. That is subtle humour, where as the Carters may aswell have a "laugh now" cue card taped to their forehead

I love the Carters and I don't think they are cheesy at all, they aren't perfect either, it's just nice to have a family where the parents love each other to bits and have been together for years and EE isn't used to this type of family, EE families are usually dysfunctional and with parents who fight, deceive and cheat on each other and the Carters haven't done that (yet) so it's a change from the usual and last night's ep was really good imo, I loved the pool scenes, ok so we may not have needed the Katy Perry soundtrack but I didn't really mind it!

I love Shirley's sarcasm and one liners which I find are hilarious, Linda Henry has good comedic timing and her delivery of these lines is brilliant without being forced. Stan/Tim West is another perfect example of the above. Stan and Shirley are very similar in humour terms and generally actually, thinking about it.

I thought Tina was quite funny when she first arrived before they turned her into this overgrown child.

I have noticed that some of the group family scenes with Mick, Linda, Nancy, Johnny and Lee can be a bit contrived and I sort of expect to see a 'laugh now' card held up in the left hand corner of the screen. Overall it's nice now and again, like the birth of lady di's pups but when the family serenaded Linda with Mama - it seemed a bit forced and OTT.

I did like the pool scenes yesterday.

Kellie Bright can get a little over excited though, like Bianca - but happy which can be quite grating.

Yeah ill admit that Shirley and Linda are the only decent carters, but they are turning them into corny characters too

Family wait with a dramatic pause
The music,
His children getting out of their seats to cheer him on
Family Jump in the pool (facepalm)
Shirleys exaggeration
Random strangers cheering like theres no tomorrow, yet pretty deadbeat with Dean

This is just cringeworthy

Thank you. People are always moaning about EastEnders being all doom and gloom, but when they throw in a bit of light-hearted banter every now and again people are up in open arms about it. You just can't win with some people.

I do think all EastEnders problems would all be sorted if the writing team just researched further into what made the show so successful in the past. I'm not suggesting they should copy and paste scenes from the classic era, just merely take inspiration from it.

Those scenes last night were completely out of place in a show that was once famous for being harrowing and gritty.

When people say they want light hearted banter, that doesnt mean to cover it with as much cheese as possible. You fail to know the difference..
