I think it is fair to say those people that hate doom and gloom are different than the ones who hate cheesy and corny scenes.

Those scenes last night were completely out of place in a show that was once famous for being harrowing and gritty.”

It could have been gritty if they played some Portishead (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5QINcJ5a3oU) , then Shirley emerged in the deepend in a mermaid outfit and said to Mick - take these water wings and use the force for I am your muvver!

LOL, that would have been far better outcome

That sounds good. And to add on the suspense even more the police once again search Lucy's laptop and find out on her internet history that she played this (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AxfaGy4LVwM) the night of her death.

Then it comes on everytime Ian turns on the telly!

I'm more on about people who are saying the Carters ought go be given serious stuff rather than cheesy bits when they've already been given drama so far and are no doubt in for more. It can't be bleak all the time.

I'd rather see Mick drowned than to watch that scene again

Wow, why are people getting so down on one scene? There are loads of families who are happy and really support each other like this. It's a refreshing change to see characters who are related where no one is damaged or where they don't hate each other and fight. People have criticised EE for years for not having any light fun stuff and now they have some, people say it has no place in EE lol

The Carters have been in the show for 7 months now and they are being built up slowly, when ever they do go on to have a more dramatic story, it will be so much better after having seen them be so solid for so long, we will be more invested in them as a unit.

I can't stand when soaps bring in a big family and we are meant to care about what they do from day one

It was cheese but there's always OTT happy scenes before a family gets ripped apart.

I personally don't think he's going to stick it out in EastEnders for very long, i give it about 18 months at the most then he will get itchy feet and move on

Mick seriously needs to get rid of that pink dressing gown, it looks really ridiculous.

I don't think it's becoming cheesy, the swimming episode was though

Yeah, Mick trying to drown Stan, Linda being groped by her creepy brother in law, Shirley being Mick's mother, Aunt Babe in general, their whole backstory including Sylvie, Tosh and Tina's tempestuous relationship which can be violent, Linda dealing with Johnny's sexuality, Lee's drama.

Happy clappy, happy flappy. Not.

I can understand Linda being very flamboyant and some of their scenes being cheesy. I too thought the music/pool stuff was too much. But they're hardly the Walton's. It was the use of music which was too OTT and not EE for me. But them jumping in the pool to him was funny and I enjoyed that moment.

If they were like that every week there'd be a problem. As it is, they aren't. They have the right balance of drama, comedy, general everyday stuff etc to be entertaining.

We've seen various different conflicts within the unit and them unite with conflicts outside the unit. But getting to know the family as a group and seeing them go through ups and downs together helps establish them properly before the sh*t hits the fan and they face more outside drama which will cause cracks in the unit.

If they were thrown into shouting/screaming/heavy drama instantly we'd have Branning-esque overload.

I must admit that although some of it is a little cheesy (mainly Linda's birthday celebration which I found had more cheese than a packet of nacho's) but, it is nice to have a few lighthearted scenes to counteract the ongoing drama. Thinking about it, at the end of the day, what is wrong with a few 'feel good' family scenes? It's not every episode and I think the balance overall is fine.

I'm going to enjoy the light-hearted scenes because we are inevitably going to have misery and suffering thrust upon us in the coming years. Look at the Massoods and the Brannings. It's impossible for a family to move to Walford and be happy. In a few years some will be dead, they will all be living separately and most of the relationships will be totally damaged.

It was one episode... What a silly thread.

Eastenders for me has always been the best at subtle comedy (Zainab, Denise, Ian), but the Carters are completely ruining the show with their cheap, cringe and "in your face" attempts at comedy and corny scenes. I am sure people wont like me saying this since Mick is lusted upon (for some strange reason)

Eastenders are trying way to hard to make the carters some sort of lovable perfect family - Oh and dont get me started on the episode where the dog gave birth”

I thought it was nice to see that Mick overcame his fear...that's what it was all about!

If it was all doom and gloom I wonder if you would complain

This is just cringeworthy”

He was doing it for Janet. Janet wanted sponsors remember

He was doing for Janet did you not see the smile on Janet's face when he was swimming for her? Mick was scared of water he hadn't dived in before and was scared of diving in.

I agree with all of this like you said it was just one episode and not every episode it happens. But I love the Branning's
