Kirkwood just sees characters as plot devices and throws them away when hes done with them or dont fit in to his vision.... to think 2 years ago i wanted him back

I doubt anyone is happy to be axed but that's the life of a soap star.

Their deaths open the way for Ste to become head of the Lomax family and sort himself out. It gives Peri and Leela the chance to become mother and daughter without undermining Sam and Danny's role as her parents. It also sets up a whodunnit with the hit and run.

The stunt could have been miles better.

BK is obsessed with tragedy dramas (fire explosions, murders etc.) and killing people off! He has a warped mind.

He wouldn't become head of the family though

Leela's his elder by something like 5 years.

And now her and Cameron don't have any conflict in the drama with Peri.

Sam and Danny's deaths were nothing but a waste, really.

And Ste's a character that had a lot of his issues rooted in being abandoned by his father his whole life. This did nothing but rob that character of a payoff that's been building since Ste was created in 2006. He and Danny probably hadn't had more than 15 minutes screentime together in a whole year, and now Danny's dead.

A hit and run whodunnit is a pretty pathetic thing to sacrifice all of that for. AND it was a very poor stunt and they already have a whodunnit in progress.

The only thing to conclude is Bryan Kirkwood is the biggest moron to ever run a soap.

Massive mistake axing Sam. I didn't always like her but she brought a lot of drama to Hollyoaks. I never liked Danny so I don't care about his death.

Her interview on SoapSquawk proved that for me

I have given up on Hollyoaks!!

At the beginning of the year I was looking forward (if that the right wording) to the JP storyline, but it has gone on far too long, most of the people who's reactions I was looking forward to are no more or dead.

There is far too many deaths, comings and going and I just decided it wasnt worth my time or effort getting into it as the chances were most people would be left or dead

She said "What a shame, what a waste" in another tweet too.

But it isn't really shocking any more is it? Deaths happen so often they've lost their impact and have just become annoying.

I think it's got to the point where everyone expects a death, I think if a character actually survived a disaster it would be more of a shock than them dying.

If one more person dies in one of these unnecessary "shock twists", then I'm going to stop watching Hollyoaks. I really should have stopped watching months ago, but it was the Patrick/Maxine storyline that I wanted to see. Personally, I share the views of most other posters on this thread. Sam's death especially was a complete waste of a character who still had a lot of mileage left in her yet and I feel that she could have been involved much more in the Peri/Leela/Cameron storyline. The whole thing was just done for the shock factor. Even Danny would have been involved in the Peri storyline and could have shared more scenes with Ste and developed a relationship with him. I'm just finding it hard to get in to the storylines when I'm always wondering if it's going to end with a shock death.

Bloody Kirkwood! His first stint on the show was so successful but killing off both Clare and now Sam has really pissed me off! Hope he goes soon before he causes more damage.

And any potential Danny had as Ste's father was trashed early on when it was clear he was more interested in shagging young men than building a relationship with his son. Why bring in Ste's real father for that? Such a waste.

I wonder what the point of either of them was. A few OMG moments and a car crash do not make up for proper character-led storytelling and building a family around a long-standing established character.

I'm pleased both actors have got subsequent work.”

Agreed!

Since when did Kirkwood have a better idea in the first place?

Sam and Danny being killed of. It was decided on a whim and was never the plan. You can see that. They make it up as they go aslong. It is a shame they exchange potential and mileage for a 1 minute shock. They credits had barely started rolling and I thought... why have I invested in these pair - Like Jim and the entire lot he culled last year.

Danny was going nowhere as a character. Sam was a bent detective who was going to end dead or in jail anyway.

The correct decision and Hollyoaks prove that they are not afraid to draw a line under a characters time on the show. They are swift and ruthless about it. Thats life. People die suddenly and unexpectedly and it came at the most distressing time for the family with the Peri reveal.

Yes, along with 24 others in a small village in the space of two years.

There really was no point at all to the Lomaxes.

Bryan Kirkwood is on something 24/7 I swear. I want some of what he's having.

It's like the time they killed off Anna Blake prematurely for no real reason; they never did tie up her lose ends. Now they've killed off Sam & Danny in the midst of major story. I wanted to see Danny's reaction to learning about JP's rape, and seeing Sam involved in arresting Finn. It also seems pointless giving Ste a family and introducing a nuclear family, only to wipe out the parents a year later.

They pile on so much misery on to these characters in a short space of time, they all should be psychologically messed up.”

I really Anna had been around for the Patrick/Maxine storyline, and be part of his downfall.
I'm not happy with Sam and Danny being killed off. I especially wanted Sam around for the conclusion of the John Paul rape storyline.

She needs to make sure she doesn't get a bad name as an actor, surely it's part of the game

Unlike the dreadful Danny, Sam could have been a great character and I can understand why the actress is not happy. She clearly got too comfortable though. In one interview she said that some of the cast and crew told her she is the heart of the show!
