I've browsed in Richer Sounds a few times when looking for TVs and went there the other day with a relative. Every time Ive gone in they've pushed LG Tvs as being better than the others which surprised me as its Samsung and Sony that get the hype.

Are they right or is there some symbiotic relationship between the two companies?

I know this is a very broad question and of course companies will have good products and duds but it just feels strange that they always push this company over others to me.

Last time I went there, the assistant recommended a Samsung TV over an LG TV.

Sadly I didn't take his advice and the LG TV I went for had a design fault which LG wouldn't admit to, so I replaced it with the Samsung one which was much better.

Well that blows my point out of the water! Maybe just paranoid!

Generally staff in shops push the sets which make them the best commission (assuming they get it), or sets that have special incentives for the salesman.

So it could be Samsung one week, and LG another - or it might be as simple as what they have in stock

they'll push whatever it is they want to sell that particular month... maybe the stock that they've had for a while that they need to shift.

Curry's stopped commission a number of years ago, it stopped the pushy sales techniques towards better commission/incentive products. What you find now is staff tend to point you to what the prefer where they should be impartial and listen to the customer - get rid of one problem, make another.

Thanks for the replies everyone. Googling I found this:
http://www.whathifi.com/forum/tvs-an...ter-panny-sony

and similar on other forums. I feel a bit daft as I bought into the image of a plucky independent which won't try to diddle you like Currys.

Hi there,

I saw your comments further to your recent visit to one of our stores and I wanted to take this opportunity to reply.

Indeed, our customer service is our top priority, and it is of great concern to hear about any customer who isn’t totally satisfied with our service.

Our colleagues are very passionate about the products we sell and they will have their own personal preferences. Of course, we should always be giving customers impartial advice in order to meet their requirements and not being over-enthusiastic when it comes to recommending specific products.

So that I may investigate this case further, and ensure this doesn’t happen again, could you please PM me a contact number and some more information?

Meanwhile, please accept my sincere apologies once again.

Many thanks,

John Clayton

Well I wasn't expecting that post from Richer Sound, and it's good to see it here. Other big retailers if you read this forum please note.

I have been a customer of Richersounds almost as long as they have been in business mostly at their Leeds branch but also at Hull and Middlesbrough.

Their service has never been less than perfect nothing is too much trouble and the customer is king, Julian Richer deals with any complaints personally although I have not at to put this to the test myself, " Which " recommend them it seems every year how many retail park outlets can claim this.

We had 2 LG tvs that developed the same fault, dark vertical lines on screen, we too then went for a Samsung and it's great.

Yes I had that problem with an LG TV as well as the design fault in the headphone socket.

Banding is one of the worse problems with LED TVs and should be cause for replacement.

It is so distracting watching something like football or things where there is lots of panning, and this dark vertical line keeps appearing.

didn't go to Richer Sounds for my latest TV [they just had a 5 year warranty in the shop I went to and I liked the TV I got, no other reason] but I've bought hifi components from Richer Sounds in the past. I was happy with the service, and what I bought. The only slight problem was the demo which lacked compared to other dedicated hifi shops but I sort of knew what I wanted and the quick listen was enough.

I would go there again without a doubt in fact it will be my first port of call and I'd compare the prices against everywhere else.
