What do you think of this little gadget...

www.navdy.com

Posted here as it will be used with mobile phones.

Seems like a good idea!

To be honest I think it's best not to start reading text messages when you are meant to be driving. As for the sat nav part then that does look like it could be good as long as it's as clear as it's in the pics as it does not get in the way as much as a traditional screen.

I'm never sure of these add in car HUD displays. They seem to rely on reflecting the image off the windscreen sometimes with use of some stick on film this means you have to focus on the screen.

A proper aircraft HUD uses a display that projects an image that appears to focus at infinity so the pilot can see all the data but without having to refocus the eyes which can cause problems. When you look through the HUD everything remains in focus.

Did you watch the video?

Because it specifically shows that there is nothing attached to the windscreen, and it also says that it's focussed out to 2 metres+ so that you don't have to refocus away from the road, just like a pilots hud.

Eta. I'll definitely be getting this or something similar when they come to the UK.

Its rubbish. Firstly in the video they dont show the wire from the device to the cigarette lighter. I really hate these wires and would prefer to buy a car that comes with a HUD, like the BMW. Also how would you fix it to your dash so it doesnt move around? If it comes with some sort of sticky pad, how do you remove it at night?

The guy in the advert had a bentley, why ruin the car with this piece of tacky crap?

There are apps that will turn your phone into a HUD...just use that if you want a HUD.
