I didn't see it so much as shoehorning as killing two birds with one stone. This appears to be the first major event in what will probably be a long-running storyline.”

I loved the contrast between Ian and Mick. Ian was desparately trying to ensure Denise did not find out as he was ashamed. Mick didnt want to tell Linda because he knew she would want to clear Micks name. I quite liked that aspect of it.

I agree. I quite like the foreshadowing we're getting that if the Carters as a family unit DO dissolve at some point, it won't be because there have been internal issues but because of the actions of others from the outside. Mick and Linda are so devoted to each other and trust each other completely (like Linda reminding Mick of their pact not to have secrets from each other and Mick immediately telling her what had happened), and the family as a whole seem to not only love each other but actually enjoy one another's company, which probably makes them a target for the negativity of other characters.

I thought it was very telling at the swimming contest when you saw Ian's reaction to Nancy and Johnny running down to cheer Mick on (some subtle jealousy there even if he was also happy for Mick) and also the more obvious jealousy from Dean.

One of the spoilers tonight is about Cora
Spoiler
being disgusted by Mick's family man 'act', even though it isn't an act, he really does adore his family
and I think that's another insight we're getting into how outside forces are basically going to rip this family apart. It makes a change from all the drama being internalised.

I don't think Mick and Linda will split while Dom is in charge. I think Sylvie will send shock waves through the family.

I get the feeling that you don't like Shirley much. Haha - I think she is brilliant, especially recently - since sort of May time.

I have loathed her since her very first appearance. I will continue to loath her till she leaves.
