AT LAST!! It's getting interesting.
In the first week I posted about how dire this series was looking to be, and I hadn't really altered that opinion until recently. But now I'm finding it rivetting. I'm fascinated by the fact that nothing is 'black and white' and trivial any more. We are seeing depth of character (as well as shallownessof character in some cases!) and real issues, such as 'what is honesty?' and the nature of loyalty as opposed to blind following. People are showing themselves to be complex and intriguing. There are more in-depth discussions on the forum and I am really enjoying this. Thoughts?

Last night was the first decent ep for weeks but I'm not counting on a permanent revival.
Generally I don't get much out of the final week anyway. |

Yes, it is more interesting for me too, to see how the HMs behave when the money comes into play..........boy, do we see their true natures come to the fore........but that was BB's idea, to expose those who say they are in for the experience as opposed to those who actually play the game...........I prefer a good gameplayer........
That said, it is a bit late for me as I have lost interest now in who wins or loses, just good to sit back and watch it all play out........ if I was asked about a winner.......I would say Winston.........only because he is the only HM not to have been slated on BBOTS.......or really done anything either.........so he will be another Sam........do sid all and run off with the prize...... |

Then there's the seemingly irrational love for Ashleigh - but its actually quite moral, because people truly do believe that there must be "good" to counterbalance "evil". But would she have been perceived as representing the Angels in any other series? Ahhhh, such issues for the deeper thinkers here. Thanks for a great thread, and love your username! |

I agree with you. This is the first year since BB began that I could be bothered getting on a forum. The strangely extreme reactions to the catalyst, namely the dreaded Helen, have been fascinating. The Daily Mail has been a top selling paper forever because the owner wisely realized that people love to have someone or something to hate, and Helen has fulfilled that role, with descriptions suggesting that she's worse than a child molester, rapist, wife beater, Hitler and Stalin all rolled into one. It's amazing, really. Any future series without a Helen is going to fall horribly flat.

I think that's so true, about us needing someone to hate. Also the whole Chris thing shows how uncomfortable ambiguity can make us. I hadnt thought about the Helen/Ashleigh opposition in that way - quite clever to put in the so-called 'evil' gobby brunette who has changed her appearance and the so-called 'goody' who is young and naturally beautiful with Rapunzel locks! (i am keeping out of any arguments as to who actually is good or evil, except to say I dont think either is one or the other). |

Of course, there wouldn't be good without the existence of evil (or vice-versa) so, having put in a 'hate figure' the audience had to find a housemate upon whom to place a halo, for balance. For many of us, Helen didn't quite reach the level of evil enough to ascribe saintly status to Ashleigh, and I doubt that either of them would wish to be seen as so one-dimensional. |

I like that what is going on is making me think, but I suspect that it is still all too easy to take at least some things at face value or simply be confused by them. It has taken me a day or so to get my head around the events of the past couple of days, for example, and though I have a view, as does pretty much everyone, I am still not entirely sure whether I have got the "right" end of the stick.
In some ways I like that, but in others it troubles me - mainly because I think I am still struggling choosing a winner, something I do feel I want to do each year and which I have often found much easier than I am doing this time. |

It's certainly picked up! I thought this series was pretty average until the last few weeks. This seems to be the first series in a while (that I've seen) where the prize fund is such a hot topic. It's more of a game show as it should be! They've put in the most unlikeable housemates ever and spared us the sob stories this year!
