I disagree. I came from an iPad and now have the Sony xperia z tablet and its streets ahead of the iPad.

As above. There are many.
I had a Z2 tablet before the iPad, which is better than yours and I respectfully disagree.

Screen, build quality, apps and battery life are all significantly better on the iPad (Air).

I'm hoping that the rumour of the 9" HTC Volantis (Nexus 9) is true... I'm using an HTC One M8 and I like that.

Build quality on the z2 wasn't great. The z1 was much better. The screen on the z is much better than the iPad. But that's preference we will never agree on. I have both here and looking at the z is like night and day. Battery life is also about the same with KitKat now. Apps, well thats an age old argument thats had its day and has been disproved a million times, so unless I'm looking in the wrong place, which I know I'm not, I again call bs on that.

The nexus 9 rumours do look interesting however and I'll be keeping my eye on that.

As soon as there's an Android tab to match the iPad then I'll be onboard.
I have a Nexus 7 and it's a brilliant tablet. It's just as good as the iPad. I haven't had many problems with it.

Look at the Facebook app on a large android tablet and compare to the iPad one. No comparison, the iPad one is MILES better, so its not BS at all. Same IIRC for the twitter app. The BBC news app had poor quality thumbnails on Android. Ebay app - no comparison. I could go on and on and on. Just because you don't wish to see the differences doesn't mean there aren't any

Fact is there are still loads of Android apps that are designed as phone apps first, tablet second which explains the poor quality of a lot of them. Tons of wasted space, and a poor UX.

Android definitely has some catching up to do on a large tablet, and that is a fact.

As for the Nexus 7, had 3 of them, all of them were poorly made junk that kept giving me problems. Which is a shame as otherwise ideal for me. To get one bad one could be down to bad luck, but THREE?!

I would agree with GeordiePaul about the Nexus 7, and I've had 4 of them (2 2012 and 2 2013).

They all had faults and felt cheaply made, I suspect they were made to their price point, so QC and build quality suffered.

Ive had two nexus 7's, first one had a dodgy touch screen and had to go back. The second one is now being used by my brother as it simply wasn't a patch on the iPad. The app quality pretty much sucks in comparison. It went unused for 6 month so i gave it away!

But ain't the iPad even more on the useless side of things unless you buy the even more expensive 4G model ?

So people buy iPads "cos they do social media better".....

A far better way of sharing photos of what you had for lunch

I think that the google now widget works much better on an android tablet. It doesn't even exist on an iPad !?!

Same with the BBC news widget.

And the Pulse news widget.

And the stumbledupon widget... (Etc etc).

Having to open up each individual app just to see the latest info seems so dated IMHO.

You keep your fancy Facebook app though

If apple hardware is so "issue free" why do you guys keep harping on about the benefits of Apple stores where you can exchange things ???

Eh, how does this differ from any wifi android tablet?

The joys of unlimited tethering mean I don't a tablet with inbuilt mobile data.

Well, they certainly have a more than supreme 'gloss over' on them.
Regarding that other gloss over, seems the September tart up iPAd includes anti-glare, one gloss I thought they already have.

Luckily, natural competition sorted most Android RAM problems years ago. Likely Apple will belatedly fix some of those IOS problems caused by their commercial decision of sticking with a low quantity of RAM.

.
For all the reasons people buy Android. They want the added PC functionality and added internal connectivity.
And only the cheapest of the cheap Android tablets have no GPS.

If Android allowed users to control app permission settings like iOS does, I would probably switch to Android again.

And what's the reason for this? Genuine question as I never used them in iOS at all.

Well I turn down plenty of apps due to permissions so the IOS way is better.
The problem though is that developers also get too restricted/owned by Apple.

Can't say I've ever turned down an app! Didn't on iOS and don't on android.

I miss the notifications control on iOS, on Android you have to do it app by app. iOS asks you whereas on Android if you accept the permissions, that's it. The same system becomes a pain when you have to give access to contacts, the mic etc to an app.

I swapped my iphone for a Nexus 5 but still have an iPad as a tablet (that is starting to feel very slow). Torn which way to go next

Most people I know who have switched from Apple to Android have sworn they will never goback. Make of that what you will.
Being completely honest,

How many people do you actually know that have genuinely made that switch from Apple to Android?

Out of the that number of people, how many actually moved because they decided that Android was genuinely more suitable for them (i.e, not just because they fancied a change of OS &/or handset)?

Genuine question.

Of course it is zillions.

People are buying stuff like the 5c free on contract. Take away that contract habit and am sure a majority would opt for the likes of a Moto G. Heck, even a single iPhone repair incident costs you more than that better G.

I know a few (but admittedly not dozens).

-Some have moved for bigger screens
-Some have moved for "fashion"
-Some have moved simply because when they got their old iPhone there wasnt so much choice out there but now there is
-Most have moved due to the better "value for money" from Android phones (im not stating whether this is real or perceived) - most users play games, use facebook and make calls - why pay £600 when you can buy something more than capable of doing the basics for less than half (or less than a quarter even) of the price. Not everyone is as gadget mad as us on here

I dont think I know anyone (genuinely) who has gone the other way. I know someone who moved from iOS to Android and keeps saying she will return to iOS soon but she has been saying that for over a year and hasnt bothered yet.

No I bought an iPad because I wanted a tablet and put simply it was better than all of the android offerings right now.

Most widgets are bollocks anyway, I've got an HTC one because I prefer it to iPhone but widgets are not the reason I prefer it. I've a single screen where I can access everything I need with one touch or a swipe. Why would I want to have loads of pages of ugly widgets when I can find one I need with one press, and I can only look at one thing at a time anyway.

My iPad has better apps and is better made than any android tablet out now. End of. The minute it changes I'll be back, as I'm no great fan of iOS or paying more than I need to, but I don't like stuff that is unreliable or rough around the edges either so until then I'll stick with it thanks.

From the man who recommended and iPhone in that 'cheap phone' thread.

Well, I like Android because of its better apps. Better, because developers and manufacturers have enough control to give me what I want.

I've seen you say that many times now. Do you have a link to the post where he did that?
