Hasn't Peter been in jail a couple weeks now? And he is only just getting withdrawals.
Total suspension of reality.

Liz isn't one to talk.

Serial adulter.
True. She was very unfaithful.

I wish Peter owed me he can make payment in kind.
I'd rather Jim any day

Oh I remember the bank robbery, but wasn't he in prison before that too?
Yes, I had forgotten - manslaughter
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jim_McD...onation_Street)
In September 2000, Steve is badly beaten by drug dealer Jez Quigley). Jim gets revenge by viciously beating Jez but Jez dies in hospital from a ruptured Spleen after trying to suffocate Steve with a pillow while they are both in hospital. Jim gives himself up to the police and is remanded in prison to await trial. He remarries Liz on 30 November 2000 and is sentenced to eight years imprisonment for manslaughter.

In November 2003, three years into his sentence and a year before his scheduled release on licence, Jim escapes from prison as he fears that Liz is having an affair with her manager at a pub in Blackpool. They try to flee to Ireland but stop to rescue Ashley and Claire Peacock who are adrift in a boat. Jim is soon recaptured and returns to prison. In June 2005, Jim fights with another inmate, cancelling his parole as a result, and he is ordered to stay in prison until September 2008. Liz gives up waiting for Jim and divorces him again.

Jim returns to the Street in November 2007 after being released early for good behaviour.

blame the writers, not many speak like that, especially where the actor is originally from
Actually it was the actor who wanted them sayings in. Don't mind them in but just all the time. Gets annoying.

My Mum is from Nor'n Ireland and she never, ever says so I do, so I am, so she doesn't. But I'm taking her out tomorrow and I'll slip a few into the conversation and watch her reaction, so I will.

I will report back, so I will.
I'm from Norn Iron and I do occasionally talk say that - so I do.
I always loved Jim and how Charlie Lawson got so many of our idioms into the show. I can say "catch yourself on" now in England with much more likelihood that I will be understood.

It is very common way of speaking back home but not in every sentence.

Norn Iron is another example of people getting it wrong, anywhere out side of Belfast it is pronouced Nordon Arland, it's a bit like us thinking that all English people pronounce London as 'Landan'

The actors accent must have changed over the years as Enniskillen people have a bit of a southern tinge to their accent and wouldn't talk like Jim, he must have lived in Belfast for years

Charlie Lawson's dad used to work in Taylor Woods factory in Enniskillen and a friend of my parents worked there too at the same time. Apparently many of the girls "had a wee notion of him". . Here is his Dad's obituary.

The actor was born in Enniskillen, Fermanagh, educated in Belfast and at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in that London.
Four years ago he and his partner opened a farm shop in Prestbury.

I always thought Jim was just from Belfast.
Charlie was born in Enniskillen (never thought of us as having a souther tinge) but moved to Belfast.

Yes the character probably was, I used to have teachers from Fermanagh and it was a strange accent, kind of like Cavan in the Republic, words are kind of dragged out

Ha ha .... Sorry Its the men who say that in our extended family. The women usually say things like "you're looking awful well." That always makes me laugh.

I think I'll see if I can change my user name. I only put k9fan when I first discovered digital spy and looked at the Dr Who forum first.

Nooooo, please don't feel awful; I am an ancient lady, too
