With the BBC confirming there will be a newly re-vamped exterior set of EastEnders, it makes me wonder how it's going to work out if they're staying on the same site that they already have and where will the temporary set be built that they said they'll use to continue filming?

The image below is an aerial view of the current set, what are everyone elses opinions on the building of the new set?

They are putting the temporary set in another part of Elstree Studios. IIRC from the plans a couple of smaller buildings are being demolished and it will be built in its place as well as taking up part of one of the car parks.

The temporary set is on an existing car park and the new set will be in the same place as the current set. It will take a year for them to build the temporary set apparently.

Hopefully they put it all together right. One wrong move and Phil will be working on cars in Dot's living room.

She planned it that way silly, she likes seeing Phil in his overalls.

A year ?! For a few MDF structures and a bit of railing around some grass?! If a few of us off of DS pitched in we could whack it up in a long weekend. My Ikea skills are second to none.

Is it just me that is surprised of how small the exterior set looks? Do you think it will be noticeable when they do eventually start filming on the temporary set?

Let's hope the new set does do what DTC mentioned previously and brings Walford into todays real world and doesn't have any iinterior/ exterior set errors like CS's new set where the Rovers magically gained a new window etc.

I thought the same thing! Surely DTC could work his magic and get something sorted a little sooner, all of us together could make a modern EE set with no problem in a shorter space of time.

It's the temporary set that will take a year. The new set itself will be done in just under 4 years.

Ahhh that makes sense! Has work started or does no one know anything about that yet?

I don't think work has started yet. They got the planning approved in June.

I can just imagine that. Sorcha will be wolfwhistling at all the men hard at work and asking if she can see their tools. Vaslav will put in a complaint that there are far too many white workers and not enough ethnics. Keyser will tell everyone in great detail how much he hates Phil Mitchell all day long and won't get any work done. The rest of us will all end up getting drunk and having a good old scrap.

Haha

Mormon Girl would be looking for Jake Wood under piles of breeze blocks, whilst Lasty and Radders stand around vaguely telling everyone they are doing a crap job. Mo would custom install some Shirley-sized gutters for her to crawl in.

surprised the set is so close to houses. Doesn't that mean they won't be able to add more streets e.t.c

some reports suggested a new high street is going to be coming along with a few new buildings of different purposes, I'm wondering if there will finally be a big supermarket as one of the new additions

Rather than a supermarket I think we could get a factory or something where more people can work together.

I don't know about a factory, to me it would start showing to be too similar to CS then and I only watch them both because of the differences between them so it would become pointless to me.

I'm not too worried if they can't add too many new areas, the EastEnders set is already the best in soap with the amount of streets and different areas it has, even the little touches like the War Memorial.

I don't get your logic, both soaps have a pub, a cafe, a salon, a garage and a corner shop so what difference would them both having a factory have? I feel eastenders would benefit from having a communal workplace, a factory would fit that. Unless they wanted something a bit upmarket, an employment agency is another good choice.

I doubt they will be able to add much to it. Infact some things like the police station might end up disappearing. They are rebuilding the main Albert Square to real scale. So that alone if going to take up a lot more space than people probably realise.

The current set alone is already at maximum capacity. They can't add anything else to it.

I looked at the plans but can't really make head nor tail of them but none of them actually show what the new set will look like anyway.
