The only good thing that came from it was Irene battling with Diana all over again!

Another vote for Pat, it really was the end of an era when she left and the show has never been the same again.

I adored Theo & his brother, can't remember his though. HO feels a million miles away from then.

Derek CS.........it wasn't long after Derek going that Mavis left she gave her reason for leaving that she was disgusted at the way he had been treated.....

I agree with basically all the HO characters you listed (although, I'm actually okay with Steph's death. Dying slowly of cancer is rarely peaceful... I think many terminal cancer patients experience wanting to have control over their death/wanting to end their suffering on their own terms).

Can I also add Sarah Barnes?! So unnecessary!

Callum had so much potential.

And most recently, Sam and Danny's deaths were quite possibly the most pointless ones in a while. Not only did the both have big storylines they were actively involved in (JP's rape, Peri), but they were great actors who didn't even want to leave...

EE there are so many Kathy, Cindy, Tiff, Danielle, Pat.

Corrie can't really think of any except Ashley, him and Claire could of left together has a happy ending.

I second what sorrento said about Derek Wilton in CS.
His sudden axing cost them the character of Mavis too
(Thelma Barlow) and in retrospect, Derek and Mavis were
head and shoulders above the majority of the current crop
of 'character altered' tosspots!

Thelma Barlow quit first, then Derek was axed. He wouldn't have worked on his own, so it was an understandable decision.

Danny and Sam Lomax- HO
Edna Miller- CS
Callum Kane- HO
Terry and Viv- ED

HO - Sam & Danny Lomax, Anna Blake, Rhys Ashworth, Max Cunningham
ED - Terry Woods, Viv Hope, Carl/Matthew King (I think Jimmy losing all 3 of his brothers way before their time was a little ridiculous + his dad! However Carl's murder did turn into a great storyline for the next year)
EE - Kathy Beale, Lucy Beale, Leo Taylor, Bradley Branning, Danielle Jones & James Branning, Paul Trueman
CS - Lucy Barlow, Paul/Liam Connor (Michelle losing both her brothers in the space of about a year and a half was a little bit much I think)

I don't care for Tina in CS but I do think in a few years they'll regret killing her off.

Des Barnes on CS. His death was pointless in the long run and looking at how the actor's career turned out after he left the show he would have jumped at the chance of coming back.

So glad that James got custody of Olivia. She would be about 16 now

I also think Jesse should come back. It was 9 years ago, surely he would be out by now?

Someone on this forum wrote a fantastic tongue-in-cheek explanation of how Dr Viv could make a comeback to ED.

I think it involved her reappearing at Jackson's funeral and announcing that she wasn't dead, she'd just had to take a holiday to get over all the angst that Jackson and Aaron were spreading throughout the village as it had given her a nervous breakdown and she felt a holiday is what Jackson would have wanted.

I am selling it short, it was hilarious.

This week makes a hat trick of pointless Windsor deaths

Neighbours killing David, Liljana and Serena in the plane crash was a terrible move. They were great characters, really well written and acted throughout their entire time on the show and they gave Harold a massive boost. Unfortunately, despite their being more of them, the Turner family hasn't really done the same for Lou in current Neighbours, due to the choppy writing and bad acting from the teens.

Harold was rendered a 'shell' of his former self by axing his family and his remaining 3/4 years on the show were his worst. Sky too suffered from losing that big family dynamic.

2005 was just full of terrible things for Neighbours though. That new cardboard Lassiters set, 'evil-Paul', Ned, Dylan Timmins (HATED HIM), Toadie wrestling, clearing out all the old acoustic music in favour of digital noises, bad lighting/sets, Boyd, Sindi and Max developing mental illnesses complete with the most cliche of symptoms, etc, etc.

Pat in EastEnders bugged the crap out of me too. Not just that she was unnecessarily killed off, but that she was given such a cliche, 'deathbed, surrounded by family, with pretty last words' style exit.

I would love to see Jesse! Yeah he should be out by now especially if he had good behaviour and he pleaded guilty IIRC. Imagine Leah's face
