Ashleighs new look tonight - Maggie Thatcher?

Well I clicked this thread to say that I thought Ashleigh's look last night was too old for her and didn't do justice to a pretty and young woman. I felt it was too contrived and done for her age and while up dos are fine on a young girl something more carefree would have been nicer. I thought she looked frumpy and cold (despite the lacy play suit) although I wasn't sure if it was a lipstick that was too blue or the hair style.

But I see all of that is inappropriate on this thread - Now Maggie's legacy.. Where to start? Well maybe her legacy didn't turn out quite as she would have predicted.

Thats why in my city millitant became popular as it decided to create an illegal budget and build new council homes regardless of what Thatcher said.”

During her reign a lot more hostels were built, more than 21,000 in London and 3,000 emergency cases and direct beds for those with genuine problems

There were several that could work, that's why there was more empty council homes than people living on the streets
Someone has to live in them don't they? It's not as if the homeless were unable to live in the council homes

At the moment people are being encouraged to breed and breed and breed and get welfare from it. By doing all this, Thatcher discouraged that. When you have so little to work with, you have to be sensible, and I think it was a good strategy.

She was a lady.”

You think putting unemployment up to 3.2million ( 7million in real terms ) is a good strategy?
So tell me Matt if Thatcher was helping people into work how come unemployment rose by over 2 million in her first term?
If she was helping them into work why did she destroy apprenticeships that gave real skills in favour of low wage jobs and 20 week training courses.?

What is your evidence that people are being encouraged to breed for benefits?

Having lived in the 80s I can tell you now, there was very little work, very little help to get anyone back into work, very low wages ( £1 an hour in some cases ),and of course Thatcher pushed VAT up to over 20% which meant times were much harder under Thatcher.
She was not a lady, among other things she covered up hillsborough, forced strikes and several of her friends it seemed were mixing in very dodgy dealings from sex to fraud.

Have you taken anything else in to account like birth control? People not working hard enough? It's not as if there was absolutely no jobs around for them was there?

They're being encouraged to breed for benefits because it's just so easy to do. If you go and have loads of kids now yet don't work you'd be sure to get welfare from it, due to the cuts in the Thatcher era that was so much harder to do. Why would you want to have loads of kids if you can't provide for them? Back in the Thatcher era that was easier to take on board, now adays it seems to be ignored because welfare will just be given to you.

Money just seems to be handed out now, and it causes so many problems. Back then, money was something you quite rightly worked for, and she made sure that those that worked especially hard got it, and other privileges.

She was a lady. I've read about people that met her, even the ones who disagreed with what she did agreed she was a very respectful lady.

Your completely and totally wrong Matt.
Not just in your analysis of Thatcher but also in your daily mail ideology of benefits.
I sugest you do some real research by asking people anywhere north of London what they thought it was like to live under Thatcherism, wether she created jobs or destroyed jobs, wether she was a lady or a control freak who had no time for the working class, wether she built council housing or destroyed it,and wether she was a good judge of character or a dreadful judge of character.

To be fair, she reminded me more of Alexandre Bastedo from 'The Champions' than Maggie Thatch

Anyone remember The Champions ?”

I remember. Yes you're right she did have a look of Alexandre Bastedo

Well for all of those who think of Maggie in times of......inappropriate sexual arrousal......now you can think about Ashleigh in her outfit. Which, incidentally, I thought looked very nice.

I'm going to try and get a screen pic to prove my point, I did not just imagine this, my OH also noticed it. However I dont know how to put a pic anywhere you'd be able to see it. (Bunny is an OAP with very few IT skills). Help please!

Having watched tonight's HLs with this in mind I can completely see what you are getting at Bunny.

When she was sitting alone by the living area and they were talking about her in the garden ( Pav, Helen and Ash) I can see what you mean. I think it is the expression as much as anything. Pursed lips, an air of disapproval and defiance. Add a blonde quaffed hair do and there was a resemblance. .

Thank you An T.

I am so glad at least a few FMs can see it cos others have accused me of starting a desperate Ashliegh critical thread, whereas in fact there was no desperation involved at all.

Haha no I don't like her but I think she's gorgeous with a fantastic figure. I'll even concede she's playing a pretty good game. I even acknowledged that in her AT thread a few weeks ago. Just before and just after Danielle was evicted I was warming to her. I just find her too miserable and not very nice but that's only my opinion. In another series in a different house she could have been a fave. After all I adored Rex.

Daily Mail Ideology of Benefits - Care to elaborate?
Real research - Well an A* in history GCSE seems to be quite good, and studying it for A Level
Created jobs/destroyed jobs - She cut jobs, yes, but by making so many cuts, she made people think 'Hang on, I can't afford to have 8 kids!' which is what we need right now
Lady/Control Freak - Lady, enough said
No time for working class - Well the rich don't get money out of nowhere do they? If you want to be rich, work for it
Built council houses/destroyed it - There were hardly council houses there for the sake of it
Good judge of character or dreadful judge of character - What?

People should only have children when they have a stable and secure life, and Thatcher encouraged that

So what about those hard working people who were unable to pay their mortgage because of the 17% interest rate. People were being made homeless all over the country. Unable to pay the crippling morgage rates and unable to sell.
