To me it sounded like "that Ireland", in the same way that Ash might refer to "that London", or "that Ibiza".

It's part of his charm.

Anyhow, the Irish vote hasn't helped many HMs in past series.”

It did in some of the earlier series, however. Anna, Brian D and Ray had a lot of support from the Emerald Isle.

I have no idea how someone would go about doing that lol but I'm not the most technically able , I still think most people in Ireland don't know channel 5 exists (I didn't until big brother moved there)

He just can't except that they are popular with the public because of who they are, and he is not.

I'm convinced Ash actually meant 'Ireland' - really not sure where 'Island' has come from!

It's pretty much true because literally the amount of Irish people that would a) care enough to do that an b) even be aware the show is airing in the first place due to the fact most people don't have c5 is absolutely minuscule , I mean if only a million or so of the 59 million or however many people there are in the UK watch it when it's on a main channel how is it likely that more than a handful of Irish are watching out of 5 million on an obscure channel?

But "that Ireland" doesn't make any sense

They were popular housemates regardless. For every Anna, Brian and Ray you get an Orlaith, Spiral and Seany.

Anna also wasn't the only Irish housemate in her series.

Last year ROI residents could vote via the Facebook page.

bit of a sniffy reverse snobbish saying isn't it, "that london", I don't think it would work with "that Ireland"?

Judging by viewing figures most must have better things to do though.

Is it though? Like I said earlier , if only 1 million are watching out of a population of 59 million when it's on the 4th or 5th most popular channel , how many people are likely to be watching out of 5 million when it's on a channel most people don't even have? Barely any

I am from Irish parents and want Christopher to win. Not because he's Irish but because he is the most decent, loyal and genuine.

Um, Christopher is also Irish? Even Ashleigh's boyfriend mentioned him in her letter.

Derry is in Northern Ireland ...part of the UK .
Ashleigh is British not Irish.

Those 6 counties of Ireland are currently part of the UK. But this same area is not part of Britain. Never has been and never will be. The Good Friday Agreement protects the rights of Irish citizens born and bred in the northern counties. They have the same rights as anyone else on the island.

Most sensible people, from anywhere in the world, automatically describe anyone from the island as Irish. Under law this is the case and anyone from northern Ireland is as Irish as someone from Cork, Galway or Dublin. This is fact and isn't up for debate.

Ashleigh and Christopher are Irish. They have said it themselves so I think they would know best

Ash and his logic is a bit wonky though as already stated in this thread. If Christopher and Ashleigh were idiots the default position of the Irish wouldn't be to vote for them - they are relatively normal though and quite likeable so that is why the two of them, and Chris, have support across the board.

By the time of Orlaith onwards, the effect had dissipated. Up until BB4, there were fairly large campaigns backing Irish housemates in Ireland. Ray would not have finished second ahead of Scott without his home support.
Tom in BB1 also had support from back home. Up against Caroline for eviction, he received a sizeable amount of Irish support which helped oust Caroline. However, Anna was the favoured one with the Irish public and received more support than Tom.

Good input there

I put the quote from ash in the thread title and then my response to it in the actual thread , is that very hard to understand?
