The Big House
Absolute Rotter

I really enjoyed the scenes between Peter and Jim in The Big House last night. Really hope there are plenty more scenes filmed inside the prison instead of just in the visiting room. I hope it turns out that Jim is some kind of Mr Big. I also hope Peter thumps his cellmate soon.

It's pretty obvious there will be plenty of scenes in The Big House. Pretty sure Charlie is contracted for about 3 months

Great news. Hopefully more realistic than Porridge.

Probably says more about me than id like but I feel a strange fascination with prison scenes in any programme so the more the better.

Yes i'm the same. I also love those real life prison documentaries where they go inside Strangeways and that sort of thing

There will be plenty more scenes in the big hoose, so there will, they've apparently built the set for it above Roys Rolls, lol

Remand prisoners are NOT allowed to have contact with convicted prisoners.

They are kept apart except in the small minds of Coronation Street producers.

Good business for Roy. Maybe he could hide a file in one of his cream horns for Peter.

They did the same thing with Gail and Tracy in 2010 Gail was on remand awaiting trial for Joes murder and Tracy was already convicted and serving a life sentence yet they bumped into one another. I suppose the writers see it as a sensational way of reintroducing a character who's banged up.

Big Jim's return has already raised the Corrie stakes and yesterdays eps were the best for a very long time. We certainly dont need the shouty Yasmeen, head holding Nick or the two dumbos Maddar and Spotty when we have great characters like this.

I am surprised there was not some big reunion since quite a few Corrie characters are/were in prison.

What makes you think they are separated?

Remand and convicted prisoners certainly do mix, always have.
Prison Rules 1999 make clear that remand and convicted prisoners should never have to share a cell but shared mixed cells is now "the norm".

I hope to see Peter and Jim have a pint together more often.

That does surprise me!

I worked in various prisons for over 24 years and in all that time, convicted and remand prisoners were not allowed to come into contact with each other.

Mind you, I suppose I could have been out of touch as the last two prisons I worked at only took convicted prisoners.

Convicted and remand prisoners have always mixed

Not true.

They had to be separated.

I worked on the right side of the bars for over 24 years.

I just provided links to show it is true.
They have never had to be separated
Guidelines say they should but practicalities decide they mix together especially in the old Victorian prisons
