he said at the end of last nights episode he expects payment soon. So what can this be?

I don't think it is money; more likely some scam in the prison that Jim is involved in, so it is.

Payment in kind is the obvious answer! However I also think it will be something to do with getting the family in to visit him or keep tabs on them.
