Most of the apps on my Samsung Smart Blu-ray player no longer work.

Can anyone tell me which would be the best cheap device to get the basic UK channels -BBC iPlayer, ITV player, 4OD & Demand Five - streaming over the internet to my TV.

I'm not really interested in anything else.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

I got a free Youview box from BT when I signed up for a 12 month contract on my broadband. It is a PVR and does all the catch-up stuff.

Yeah. Plus one for this.

Definitely the cheapest option.

Plus its not very often you find something that has BBC, ITV, channel 4 and channel 5.

You can also install plex which has access to lots of channels. Turns box into media player as well. Best value device on market

The Roku box (which the NowTv is a hobbled version of) also IMO is the most reliable device of its type on the market -- something that counts for a lot with these things. Good, strong WiFi connection, fast response and not inclined to crash every 20 minutes.

Which is more than can be said for the YouView system, sadly. I loved the idea, but in practice it's a mess of black screens, slow response and random errors on iPlayer. But maybe that's just my particular receiver.

Your other choice is an Android TV box -- this is basically just a tablet without a screen, and allows you do do everything you could on a tablet. The newer quad-core versions are fast and reliable.
