I'm always surprised by the number of people who have their names tattooed in Arabic, Chinese or whatever, and are convinced that this is a good look!

It baffles me why anyone would ever think that it is a good thing to permanently mark their skin with letters from a language that they can't speak or read.

Either go with an image or choose words that you can actually speak and read.

Do they just want people to ask what their tattoo means?

Ah, the chinese/hebrew/arabic et al tattoo fad of the 90's. I bet those who can read these languages have a good old laugh in summer when they are all on display. Ash's probably actually reads 'I eat dung beetles'

Always beware of tattoo trends. There is a show on TLC in the US called Tatoo Nightmares or something like that and artists make a small fortune fixing tramp stamps, tribal tatoos and things written in a language foreign to the wearer.
