Could EastEnders pull off a serial killer group?

Like a small group of (say about 3) people united together in a pact to satisfy their need to kill others? Say something like the two deranged young adults who've lost their minds, like the two characters in Scream? Or an even better example, three young adults like Jacob, Emma & Paul in The Following.

The storyline could be a character exploration of these people. How they develop to want to do these things, what it's like when they are planning to kill, and the repercussions of them actually seeing it through.

One of these three possible characters could already live on the Square and that could be our way into the story as that character makes friends with the other two and is recruited - and then the storyline develops from there. Further down the line, they could have all planned to kill a personal person that they each know in their lives - and the recruited character that lives on the square could pick their innocent person on the square that they could kill etc. The storyline wouldn't need to be tied down just to the square. It could be more expansive across London as the other two of the group wouldn't be from Walford - but other parts of London perhaps.

I think this could be an interesting and gritty storyline that hasn't been done by EastEnders yet. It can avoid being sensationalist with the right approach, quality, character depths and truth of story telling. Things like this are sparse, but I'm sure they do happen in the world.

There are also a number of interesting themes that can be explored from this storyline. Such as: Corruption, serial killer communicates, cult worshiping, human moral over taking life, psychology of murderers and potential murderers, lust for power, envy, trust, and many more intriguing ones I'm sure.

What does everyone think?

I don't think they have from what I can remember...

I'd love something really in depth and super quality, with outstanding acting, realistic and not for sensationalism if they were ever to do something like this though. I think if they really went for it and worked really, really had at the portrayal of it and keep it very character focused and driven, it would really pay off and be amazing.

Surely any serial killer worth a damn has to live in one Manchester backstreet. It's the rules or something.

Lucas was a bit like a John Stape serial killer at first. Oops, there goes another one... careless.

A mask would be very creepy for stalking. But I'd love the story (if it is ever to be done) to solidly follow the three killers/potential killers perspective and development all the way through. I'd love to see their interactions, emotions and thought processes as they got to know and befriend each other, planned what they were going to do, how it all happens when the time comes and how they manage together after. I think it'd be so interesting!

I don't think any soap as ever done a serial killer storyline honestly, realistic and serious before. Richard Hillman from Coronation Street has probably come the closest though for sure.

I think it would be really good, if from my OP example, a young person from the square fell into the cult of the outside Walford two. It would be really shocking to see an impressionable young mind be corrupted by the other two and begin to aspire with them to killing. It would be really interesting to see how that development happens! I think that's a massive interest.

Yeah he was good if I'm honest. But at times it came across a bit silly and I don't think Silas' character was particularly explored with as much depth as there was potential for. At the end of his story, I think it got a bit one dimensional. However I do think Jeff Rawle was fantastic in his performance and added more sub-textual layers and dimensions to the character - that I don't think was written on paper. I think more or less all the good point of that story were down to the actor himself.
