Some of the chilled golden ales and IPA's have been the perfect pint when sat outside in the baking sun. There's been no need for anyone to switch to lager, which is what tends to happen when the weather is hot.
To me with ale you are getting an exclusive product that can't be achieved by buying booze from the supermarket. With it being hand pulled and cask conditioned, it's worth going to the pub and paying the extra. However draught lager at the pub is only marginally better than that out of a can or bottle. So nowhere near as good value.
