ok this week was quite a good week. mick done his swimming gala and overcame his fear of water and was cheered on by his family. on his way home he spotted ian beale having a heated argument at the side of the road with rainie cross. when mick pulled up ian sped off and rainie then thought mick was a customer. mick tried to get her to leave but the police pulled up behind him and arrested him for kerb crawling. mick then retuned home very late for his own celebrations and told linda he was arrested and it wasnt until the next morning when he finally told her why he was going to court.
linda was accompanied by cora for support but cora then realised rainie was the prostetute involved in the scandal. mick plead guilty to cover ian's back and got a £500 fine. later back at the vic cora blurted out to everyone that rainie was her daughter and that mick was arrested for kerb crawling.

over at the other side of the square kat and alfie got a huge surprise when jean turned up at the door stating she had come home. the truth was she wasnt coping with being lilly's guardian while stacey was in prison. the signs were everywhere and eventually after shirley pointed out the obvious she left tommy and lilly with shirley and ran off. kat found her on the kitchen floor. the fact thatshe wasnt coping was the reason she needed to get stacey out of prison. in the hospital stacey arrived with prison guards in tow to see her mother and as the reunion ended kat went into labour.
alfie got the news after a heated exchange between him and alex. alex is just being a bully. alfie got to the hospital and kat gave birth to the twins. bert and ernie. one wasnt too well after being born but it turned out to be fine. the last time eastenders had a happy ending was when lola was given custody of lexi back!!
anyway this week was quite eventful . what did everyone think?

Mick's triumph at the swimming gala was brilliant, he conquered his fear of water and the music was a nice touch, I loved it when Linda, Nancy and Johnny jumped in the pool and did a little victory jig with Mick.

Mick's subsequent arrest for kerb crawling was a shame though, what a comedown! Ian should be ashamed of himself letting Mick carry the can for him especially now Cora has poked her nose in.

Kat and Alfie's twins are beautiful, not sure they are actually called Bert and Ernie though, I think they might be just nicknames and I can't believe Alfie risked theirs and Kat's lives by dragging her to a baby shop instead of the hospital on a promise of free baby stuff.

Jean was a welcome return but it's a shame she is ill again but at least Kat and Alfie have taken Lily in despite the fact that Alfie doesn't seem to like Jean or Stacey much.

And I loved the 'Alfie selfie' scene where they had a lovely family photo taken and Alfie almost sat on one of the babies and Kat called him a big pillock!

I was struck by how far from the end Kat and Alfies babies being born was. 10yrs ago itd be a big happy ending &get Julia's theme-the whole works. The fact that they were behind another Carter story really brings home how relegated they are now in EE.

I know we have a big story coming up in Sept but the vibe lately is that DTC just doesn't know what to do with them/doesn't care. Jessie being off hasnt helped though.

Mixed feelings really. As someone else said, it would previously have been a Julia's theme moment even if they had one baby as they are a popular couple. Not as popular as they were before Kirkwood character assassinated them, but outside of DS they seem to be so. The fact then that they had twins really should have secured them a Julia's theme. I know they're not the first set of twins to be born to characters on the show, but they were the first set with any kind of birth scenes - Peter and Lucy weren't seen until they were a week old. That said, I did like the community spirit of Mick and Ian receiving a photo. Abi should have been substituted with Terry though, as he specifically asked Alfie to let him know.

There is also the feeling that one should have been a girl. As the children of popular characters, there is a much greater chance that the twins will be on screen in years to come than kids like Freddie Mitchell (who isn't actually a Mitchell and is outranked in the importance stakes by Janet, William, Lola and Lexi. Now all he is is the child of arguably the least popular Slater sister.) Aleesha Miller and Summer Swann are also probably among the least important of the kids; Demi wasn't on screen for long and Dawn's popularity seemed to stem from the actress being attractive. As there is a real chance of them being in the show in years to come, I think there should have been a girl to grow up into a Mini Kat. Then of course we have the whole would have been much better if one was named after Nana Moon, Kat never got to raise a daughter etc. Alfie must be the only EastEnders character to have more than one child yet not have one of each.

The twins are beyond adorable though and their continued health is much more important than their gender. A huge shame that story rotation is about to see them off screen for a while. I loved what we saw of them on Friday and while there were some definite echoes of the baby swap (Kat telling Alfie not to let the baby out of his sight; Alfie waiting as the medics worked on him, reminiscent of his waiting while Kat was being operated on shortly after Tommy's birth,) I can't help feeling that they should have had the second have breathing problems (if they had to at all!) and let them wait together without making Kat have the second all by herself.

What did I think of the actual birth scene?
1. Alfie's acting was terrible in the lead up to and the actual birth; to have him talking about losing the stall made him an even worse w*nker than before
2. Kat should have had a Caesarean section because of her age and the fact that she was having twins 3. The 'bump' looked so false and didn't look at all authentic. 4. The nursing staff and doctor were mute and came across as rude when taking the first baby away 5. The first nurse resembled Natalie Gumede (Kirsty in Corrie )
So all in all not a very memorable scene, IMO

I've told you before. They add nothing to the show and are conveniently forgotten about when the storyline dictates. This falsely portrays parenting to the chavs of this country, who then go off and churn out yet more needless brats destined to follow in their single parents footsteps and end up on benefits.

I'm sick of the pair of them. Ever since they turned up the entire show has been focused around them, and I'm not having it. It's 'Eastenders' not 'BabyMoonenders'. The actors are both hammy and overplay every scene they are in.

It takes someone with absolutely zero acting scruples to out-cringe Shane Richie but these two vagrants managed it with blinding effect.

For the LOVE of all that is Holy, please DO not have them named after Sesame Street characters.

Kids are not pointless. Well kids don't stay kids for long do they. Its best to have some kids in the show because there is no point getting rid of Lexi if you keep Lola and Ben and you can axe Ay and Dennis if you keep Sharon and Roxy. Eastenders is suppose to reflect real life and in real life there are kids in families. There has always been kids in Eastenders since 1985 when Martin was born. When Martin was a child unless Pauline left when Arthur did then Martin would have been axed but since Pauline didn't leave then Martin wouldn't be axed then because there would have been no point and if Michelle didn't leave and stayed on a few more years then Vicki wouldn't have been axed.If your an Eastenders then you would know by now you can't axe a child like Lexi or Amy if Lola and Roxy are staying.

I totally agree!

I have been thinking this myself ever since the Carters came in, I adore the family and they are just as at home in the Vic as Kat and Alfie were but I have noticed how the Moons have been playing second fiddle to them it's like they were introduced to replace Kat and Alfie, I mean Mick even has an uncannily similar persona to Alfie, a kind hearted but henpecked husband and Linda is a strong bossy female like Kat but without the cheating (yet) and Alfie has been getting really ridiculous story lines so I feel that Kat and Alfie are way down on DTC's list of importance!

This!

Agreed on all points!

Love the Carters but we should have had more of the baby Moons as they are adorable and were joint best event on last week's EE eps with Mick and his swimathon!
