"If your names not Slater, see you later!"
I think in the early naughties Jack Ryder said this on about how characters were being sidelined for The Slaters, who were a new family at the time. Do you think now this is start to become true for the Carters as well? I know DTC has invested in the majority of the cast and most cast members have been given something to do, but it just seems like the Carters get 50% of the investment and then the rest share the other 50%. The Carters are getting loads of unneeded members (Lee could have been left in the army, Aunt Babe is pointless, Tosh is awful) and there's been about 5 story lines introduced to the family already (Shirley's Mick's mum, Dean loves Linda, Johnny have to come out and Linda trying to accept him, and now they have Sylvie coming as well as the foundations of a domestic abuse plot with Tosh and Tina) so I just think it's all getting too much.

Jack said that but most of the cast spoke out against it and couldn't understand why he had made those remarks.
The Slaters were dominant but plenty other stuff was taking place. Including storylines concerning Jamie. There was Mel/Steve, Peggy/Pat/Frank, Dan Sullivan, Janine/Terry, Lisa/Mark/Phil, Ian/Lauren/Janine, Barry/Natalie, Jim/Dot, Sonia/Martin/Jamie and not to forget Sharon's return. None of those storylines had anything to do with the Slaters. Except for the Sonia/Jamie thing as Jamie loved Sonia but fancied Zoe more. So thats the only storyline outside of their family that the Slaters were involved in. All of that took place at the same time as Kat/Zoe, Trevor/Mo. |

So really, while the carter's do appear an awful lot, the other characters are most definitely not being sidelined. If any family is being 'overexposed' its the beales as lucy's murder seems to be involving every family in the show, and rightly so as the 30th anniversary approaches. |

I agree in a way, they want to be careful they don't burn the family out! However if you remember 2007-2010 the Mitchell's had A LOT of screen time and 2 christmas's out of 4 based on them... This was because they were a big family back then, and at the vic, I just think if you're at the vic, you're going to get a lot of screen time, I do however agree with you that they're given maybe too much, I just think it's because they're a new family, they'll probably calm down soon, I'd like to see Sonia, Whitney, kat and alfie, stacey, sharon, the masoods, and the Mitchell's get huge storylines next year!
