I used to dislike Shirley before but now I really like her. She's popular in general. Having said that, she is a bit overused but I'm not complaining

I've always loved Shirley but I must admit. I preferred her not having all this family. You know what I think made her work? being a loner. Now suddenly she has a secret son that we never had the slightest hint about previously and new relatives popping up by the dozen.
I think its harmed her character rather than helped. I really wish the Carter's had not been her family. |

She a lazy character, I don't find much effort is put into developing or giving her any growth...even the adding of her family & a rectonn backstory does nothing to give her substance...she still act selfish and is void of any responsibility..her and Phil same old same old.

Linda Henry played Yvonne Atkins therefore she is amazing and any character she plays is equally amazing. I love her and one of the best things of the show nowadays is how much she features in it.

Has Mormon girl got a new username or something? No one else loves Linda Henry this much, surely?

There seems to be a few posters on here that really dislike Shirley and are very vocal about it and so it seems like there is a lot of hate for her, there really isn't overall. Shirley is a popular character on social media and that is where they get most of their feedback from, plus there is a wider range of viewers on social media. No character is liked unanimously but the Shirley bashers mainly congregate on here, I see a lot of praise for her in other places and in polls.

Plenty of characters get a divided opinion on here, it's not just Shirley's character even if people like to think so.

Amazing is a bit overkill, good actress yes. And not everyone thinks Bad Girls is amazing either.

![]() PS. I loved Bad Girls and Linda Henry was ace as Yvonne Atkins, the show went downhill when she left imo. |

I love Shirley. She is a fascinating multilayered flawed but very real character played by a fantastic actress. I love her quips, one liners, sarcasm and how she says it as it is and I love that. Shirley has softened slightly in the last few months and I love her relationship with Mick and Tina. I think once Sylvie has joined and Mick has been revealed as her son, it will bring a new direction for Shirley. In order for her to progress as a character, her past must first be explored. The only thing I don't like is when they keep reverting Shirley to the gutter, she is good without haven't to drink a record number of vodka bottles when things go wrong. I've loved her with her family the last few months but they need to sort out the Phil situation though. They keep sacrificing Shirley for Phil and its not on. I wish TPTB would decide what they want to do with Phil/Shirley, they have these lovely scenes and then the next week they are threatening each other..
The exploration of Shirley's history is the linchpin of why she is the way she is and I think this will allow her to finally put demons to bed. I can definitely see her becoming a matriarchal figure much like Pat but that doesn't mean to say that im saying she is like Pat. On a side note, Linda Henry portrays her brilliantly.. Sorry for the rambling and lack of paragraphs, its quite hard to do on my phone.. ![]() Quote:

Thank you! I again apologise on behalf of the auto correct on my phone that seems to have the habit of correcting grammar incorrectly. I can't work it out! But, you get the idea of my post.
![]() My hope for Shirley/Phil was that they would get to a point where they could rely on each other as super-best-friends (eg: Shirley helping to clear up the Carl Fiasco and Phil finding out about Mick being Shirl's son first and sort-of helping her come to terms with it) but it goes absolutely no further romantically than that. |

I don't know where else to post this but she really pissed me off in the latest episode sitting on her bar stool with a face of thunder acting like the queen bee and slagging Sharon off. The only witch in Walford is named Shirley Carter and she should have her broom stick shoved up her backside, the lazy hypocritical child abandoning cow! She makes my blood boil!!!!

Er, to be fair: nobody knows Sharon was actually genuinely heading off to be with Ian. It did look like she was blanking Linda over the prostitute thing, whilst Sharon has prostituted herself at least twice since she came back (once to Jack, for stability and money, and now to Phil for money - but don't get me wrong: I'm glad she's effing over Phil and I'll totally support her right to sleep with this man for money!)
Sharon has not prostituted herself. Lots of people get in relationships for stability. It doesn't make them prostitutes. She was going to marry both Jack and Phil. Fair enough she's out to rinse Phil right now but she's still in a relationship with him

Shirley is a bitter, nasty, spiteful, selfish bully. Abandoning three little children (including a child who was ill) to go partying with Heather was the ultimate selfish act. Now that her children are grown the abandonment continues to be all about Shirley as she wallows in her own guilt and sadness instead of thinking about what she put them through. She learnt nothing from her past mistakes as she discarded (or tried to), bullied or tried to drown every child that has been in her care since. She has no consideration for anyone but herself. The only thing she really cares about is regaining her former status as Phil's moll. Playing happy families with Mick is a consolation prize. Phil was responsible for putting his girlfriend in a coma and she made a beeline to the hospital to try and win him back while Sharon fought for her life. She bullied Heather, Dennis, Abi and Carol. Last but certainly not least she is a rapist as she plied an alcoholic Phil with booze to keep him sleeping with her.

Lol! You should see me on my phone: it doesn't let me click back in to correct words & the screen is ultra sensitive, so everything looks like this: " Yes, I'm ghaving a foos sat" instead of "yes I'm having a good day".
My hope for Shirley/Phil was that they would get to a point where they could rely on each other as super-best-friends (eg: Shirley helping to clear up the Carl Fiasco and Phil finding out about Mick being Shirl's son first and sort-of helping her come to terms with it) but it goes absolutely no further romantically than that. I'm on the fence with Phil/Shirley - when they are good, they are really good. They work well together as characters and actors but EastEnders seems to enjoy sacrificing Shirley for Phil - how many times are they going to have her tell him she loves him, only to be rebuked but only rebuked to a point that it is left open for the future? Regardless of what has happened prior to now (forgetting it all just for a sec), I think they need to pick one of them or none of them for Phil and have him either settle down or stay single imo. The only way I would accept a Phil/Shirley reunion would be if Phil did a total U-turn as a character and had an equal partnership with no cheating, lies etc..(we need some more solid couples on the square imo) but that would be unlikely to happen and this 'affair' looks more and more likely to result in Shirley being the fool, why DTC, why?!! Haha!

I did laugh at Shirley's comment about the broomstick
- cracked me up!! Shirley has never liked Sharon anyway and she's about to betray Sharon by having an affair with Phil soon - I do like their banter and want them to be frenemies.

Shirley - 'what, on her broomstick?' and the quip about Max/Lauren 'she can talk, with her dads track record'. Or something like that. Brilliant. Do you know what on earth is actually going on with this 'affair' ? I would love a Pat/Peggy similarly frenemy relationship between Shirley/Sharon.

When Shirley and Sharon had that "fight" in Phil's house in May, I loved how Shirley delivered the line "engaging in this conversation" ![]() I have no idea about the affair storyline but I'm 99% certain they are gonna have an affair but it probably start in the beginning of September. Steve McFadden and Linda Henry have been spotted filming together so they do have scenes coming up

That is probably my favourite quote from yesterday. Shirley gets the best liners and Linda Henry always deliver them well. I bet Linda loves getting those brilliant one liners

Sharon is getting her revenge which is brilliant but I would hate for Shirley to be sacrificed in the cross fire. |
