It could be she is channelling her mother, but could it perhaps relate to her secret? Maybe she was a prossie in Pakistan

I didn't realise understand why Linda was bothered by her dirty look giving and comments, Shabnam isn't really a punter, does she even use the Vic?

I love Shabnam but I wouldn't say she was being 'unusually' judgemental; she's a very judgemental person - from her feelings on who Masood should be in a relationship with, to her lecturing Phil about letting Denny eat junk food... she is very opinionated!

I noticed this too and I thought there was something in it. Maybe she was used to bear five kids when she was in Pakistan.

Well yes, but there was a lot of focus on her judgment compared to everyone else on the square, remember, Shabnam has had next to no interaction with the Carters whatsoever which is why it stood out

That's true but I suppose they couldn't show everyone judging Mick, so they just chose Shabnam and Denise for that scene because Shabnam has a history of being judgemental and with Denise there's the irony that it's actually Ian who was kerb-crawling. I don't think we were meant to read too much into it, it was just there to show that people are gossiping about it.

I don't like this fact. I think they should focus on making Shabnam her own character rather than a mark 2. We've got enough Juniors on the square

It's also possible that TPTB decided that they needed every character that appeared in that episode to pass judgement in some way on the Carters and Shabnam just happened to be in that episode and was a fairly judgemental character anyway.

Exactly! Has Shabnam ever even been in the pub?

Besides, I have to disagree with the OP. Shabham is judgemental of everyone and everything, lol!

I thought the whole Linda walking through the market scene was too OTT last night anyway. This is the middle of London, would people really be so judgemental? Never mind so unsympathetic to the wronged woman? I doubt it somehow! Unless of course it was supposed to be from Linda's POV and in her embarrassment was imagining it to be worse than it actually was?

This is very true since her return she has passed judgment on everyone l keep waiting for her to show a softer side but she seems to have become very hard, having said that l actually like the character alot, her hardness seems somewhat out of character to how she looks sort of slight and timid. Just shows you can't judge a book by the cover.

There's something about Shabnam that makes me enjoy her a lot. The actress is very convincing but she needs more airtime. Her secret has better not be a letdown but I trust the producers with the secret. The actress mentioned in January (I cant remember the source) that Shabnam's secret is "shocking".

I agree. Whilst it isn't out of character for her to be somewhat judgemental they really did seem to focus on it, right from her eavesdropping in the cafe which made me think it's significant to her 'secret'. $aybe she was involved with somebody in Pakistan who cheated on her? Or she was the other woman without realising it - ie they did,'t tell her they were married and then tried to 'buy' her off when she found out?

I think they have shown a softer side with the way she dealt with Masood's drinking and estrangement from Tamwar. She was also very kind to Carol and the Butchers (but not in an over powering way) when she learnt about the Cancer and to Ian, Jane and Denise following Lucy's death. She is somewhat judgemental and strict but there is also a good heart under there that acts in a practical way to help people when they are in trouble - even if she doesn't like or approve of them very much.

I think it was meant to indicate how Linda is feeling - she feels as though everybody is talking about her, judging her so will find 'evidence' for that. Somebody could be looking at something straight behind her or talking to a friend or punter about their own business but she will assume they are talking about her.

Maybe she took Shagnam's reaction so badly simply because she isn't a regular in the Vic but knows she religious and therefore thought she'd more forgiving or reasonable?

Shagnam.

Sorry, I've clearly got the maturity levels of a 12 year old boy.

I agree with all of your points about her and Linda, btw.

Lol, I reacted exactly the same
I watched last night's ep & found the storyline really dumb. The whole square just staring at Linda while she's walking through like she's the scarlet woman?? Rubbish!

I wouldnt have said she was being unusually judgemental at all, Shabnam is judgemental, and her reaction to Mick was not out of character for her - she believes in marriage and being faithful, she has never said otherwise - tbh if she hadnt have said anything I would have found that out of character for her
