Hmm, well I suppose it's a very fine line between feeling desperately remorseful and desperately sorry for yourself, and maybe his acting skills weren't quite up to it. But I do think the character was
supposed to be seen as full of remorse and genuinely dumped Katie for the right reasons.
He'll never lose his 'Thugden' tag on DS, but I think we're supposed to have been left with the impression that he will now get more counselling and that aspect of the sl is probably over now bar the shouting, (pardon the expression).
