It makes sense. NOT ONE character has shown any hint they may have killed her. So what if the killer wasn't amongst them at all but was always planned to come in mid story..... Good cover.

It makes a lot of sense. This is so exciting!! we will need to watch Ben closely once he is back.

I don't even think she was intentionally killed.

I think she had existing head trauma (from when she hit her head in the car lot). Had an altercation with someone and was either hit over the head again, or fell over and hit her head, and it finished her off.

The blood in the flat might be explained through the wound opening up again.

I'm guessing she either saw Ben or Nick Cotton and they needed to keep their cover.

I agree with you. I always thought it would turn out the killer didn't know they were responsible but now I'm starting to fall into the Ben camp. For this to have full dramatic effect the killer being a Beale is the best option. Peter, Jane, Ian, Denise and even Cindy Jr are too valuable to lose imho. Cindy is the only living daughter left of Cindy senior. I don't think they will mess her character up this way. So step forward Ben. He is easiest to get rid of at this point and Ben will create more drama as it involves Phil directly too. They couldn't use Steven as it would have been obvious from the outset.

Bib. Cocaine users are known to suffer strong nose bleeds. I reckon the blood ended up in the flat for as simple reason as that.

So what would Jay's motive for killing Lucy be? A confrontation that went wrong, him challenging Lucy over Max on Abi's behalf?

Ben would also allow the Beale's and the Mitchell's - arguably two of the most important and iconic family units on the show to take centre stage on the 30th anniversary.

Jay and Ben also have history in covering up a murder...

Oh yeah! That would definitely be his reason for following her I think! Maybe Lucy was going to meet Ben and she led Jay to him?

Jay has been so underused under DTC, is he going to get rid of him by making him Lucy's Killer?

Jay gets on the bus before Lucy but she doesn't notice him until just before she gets off. You can see her giving him a dirty look!

This makes perfect sense, look at how tense Phil looked all episode today. Looked as if he knew something. Maybe Jay thinking Phil as a fatherly figure and the one that covered up Ben killing Hev, would have asked Phil to do the same, and he agreed in his hate of Ian.

See, it's for that reason alone that I don't think it will be Jay and/or Ben. They may well be accused, certainly, and the audience may be led to believe that it's history repeating itself, but it would be an even bigger twist if the case appears to be done and dusted and then it turns out to be someone completely different.

With that said, it does seem very likely that they had something to do with Lucy the night she was killed, and it may very well be Jay that buried her belongings (I've said since that episode aired that I didn't think the one burying it would actually turn out to be the killer) but I don't think we've found our killers just yet.

Same. We still have four months till Christmas which will give us our biggest clue yet.

If anything, this is their way of bringing Ben back into the show. The pressure will be mounted on Jay as to what he was doing, leading to the reveal that he had seeing Ben in person - not just speaking to him on the phone.

I think Lucy followed Jay after they got off the bus, saw him with Ben and confronted them and threatened to call Ian/Phil, which led to Ben taking her phone (and purse for some reason.) If Ben's at a hostel he can't be seen with someone else's belongings so dumps them on Jay, who buries them when he hears the police are looking for them.

It is Jay on the bus, although the whole 'Jay in the reflection of the phone thing' is ridiculous. None of the actors know who killed Lucy, they would have got a crew member to do that scene.

Good thinking.

It could be that Jamie Borthwick did film the scene as he isn't actually connected to or murdered Lucy.

Loving your theories folks. You've all had me convinced it's Alfie/Mick or Ben! Keep em coming.

I think its Abi and Jay. I remember a few weeks before that, Abi, Lauren, Lucy and Whitney were watching a movie and Lucy said something about a dad? that really annoyed Abi, so Lucy left to sit on the stairs outside. Maybe when Abi found out her secret, she decided she had enough of Lucy and recruited Jay to kill her.

But surely the writers would know that Eastenders fans will look back at the murder episode and try and identify who was wearing the same hat, they are cleverer than that hopefully. It seemed liked jay's facial structure as he/she got on with the beanie hat. As the person with the beanie hat passed through the next camera on the bus (top right hand corner CCTV screen) it did not look like jay's face at all- it almost seemed like Abi's.

Someone who is burying the items of a murdered girl means they are somehow involved.

I have froze the screen where that last guy gets off and I can see the side of his head and it looks simliar to either Jay or Peter

The fact that it's Jay probably means we can rule him out. I think this will tie Ben's return into the Lucy story which will ultimately lead to his return. It's very possible Ben was in contact with Lucy and with his past record, he'll be anxious to keep his head down until this blows over.

It's likely that a second blow to the head was fatal but she wouldn't have died instantly so the person is yet to realise. Someone else moved her possibly Ben or Nick.

My money's still on Cindy.
