Monumentally stupid idea. If she quits and then dies her daughter gets nothing from her employer's insurance. If she dies whilst a police officer, April will benefit from a shit load of Death In Service money. Better for Donna to go on the sick until she dies.

All I'm thinking about this storyline is; Emmerdale are going to get a shit load of awards! Although, surprisingly, the siege/flood didn't really win all that many. I can see it winning almost as many as the Corrie/Hayley/Roy cancer storyline. Although I'm not too sure. I hope not as that would be bull for me because I am an EastEnders man!

Don't know about that. Donna's cancer storyline is nowhere near as powerful and emotive as Hayley's. When it shows the impact of her passing on April, Marlon, Bob and Ross perhaps, but it's got nothing on Hayley's yet.

Don't like the Donna storyline. Can't see any point in bringing back an old character just to die.

When I was in Bob's Caff earlier, Donna's resignation letter "accidentally fell" out of her bag.
I'm ashamed to say that curiosity got the better of me, and I ended up taking a sneaky little peek ...

Dear Policey-coppers.

I hereby wish to tender my resignation as the main bobbie with your force.

My reasons are as follows:

Firstly, I have unfortunately contracted truncheon cancer and expect to duly pop my clogs any day now.
I must stress however that this is extremely confidential information, so please don’t tell pointy-Bob or April.

Secondly, I feel you have taken advantage of my good nature for quite long enough thank you very much.
None more so than all those endless months when myself and Ross (the other one) were the only two coppers in all of Yorkshire.
I appreciate the force has had to deal with cutbacks, but expecting just the two of us to uphold law and order across an entire county was a bit of a bloody cheek I feel, and was probably the reason why I ended up cheating on Marvin with him in the back of the van that time.

Incidentally, and on an entirely unrelated note, should you at any time in the future find any jewels or bags of cocaine missing from the evidence room down at Hotten nick, then please let it be known that it is absolutely bugger all to do with me.

Yours sincerely,
Donna Kebab.

This is true, but given that it looks like Donna dies in this job with Gary, April wouldn't get anything anyway, so the result is the same.

'Truncheon cancer'! 'Pointy Bob'!

Give or take the odd word, this is exactly how I would expect Goner Donna's resignation letter to read.

I have a feeling that she was brought back to further Ross' character development

But Ross can't have a character development as he will be in prison for a good many years.

There's been plenty of point really, as Alleycat said the character of Ross will be developed through the story, there's character progression for both Donna and Marlon off the back of her exit a few years ago, her return has also provided material for Marlon and Laurel and this will help determine how strong their relationship is and throws April into the mix - their first proper testing since they got together IMO (the carjacking stuff ultimately was quite pointless for their development) and it's also setting up another character to return by involving Adam. On top of that, around six months of drama (possibly more depending on how it all pans out).

In reference to lovinglife's post, I can't see them winning a bunch of awards for it all as they never seem to make much of a dent unfortunately, but I think Donna's storyline has already been significantly more well written than Hayley's in Corrie, though granted they're both going to end up being quite different from each other. Hayley was a character I loved who I felt they ruined by the material they gave the character in her story, where Donna is a character I was unsure about who I've grown to love through the story.

Lol, you guys are as daft as me!

Anyway, on a more serious note, it looks like Donna’s had a reply from the force.
I was in the Woolly earlier when another letter just happened to fall out of her bag …

Dear PC Kebab.

It’s with an extremely heavy heart that we are reluctantly forced to accept your resignation from the filth.

We wish to place on record our appreciation of all of your efforts these past six years, particularly those days when you policed the whole of Yorkshire single-handed after Ross had rung in sick.

The other pigs here at Hotten nick are most upset to hear of your unfortunate truncheon cancer.
If ever there’s anything that we can do to help, then you only have to ask.
We feel we have a duty of care to all of the herberts who join us, even you.
That’s providing of course that we’re not too busy that particular day picking on innocent motorists or helping people accidentally “fall” down the steps at the station.
There are only so many hours in a day after all.

So good luck with whatever you choose to do in the future, I’m sure you’ll be a huge success at … ahh … whoops … yeah … sorry, forgot there for a moment about the truncheon cancer.
Erm, good luck then Donna.

Yours,
The Policey-coppers.

I think these two letters should be used in the show; much better writng than we are getting at the moment.
