The best they can do? Looks like every other Galaxy phone only not plastic. 720p only, is this supposed to be a premium phone or not.
They sacked the head of design after the S5, it seems the new one isn't doing much better. |

Good question. Samsung seem to go out of their way to make their device lineup as confusing as possible.

You seem pretty clear when you keep choosing Samsung for yourself, strange you now claim it's confusing, that in itself is confusing.
And when you say, 'keep choosing them', I've only had (and still have) two of their cheaper phones. You seem very sensitive about Samsung, but it is difficult to know your views on the alpha because as usual, you haven't expressed any view. What's up, has no one written a headline for you yet? |

Samsung’s Metal-Edged Galaxy Alpha Is Its Most iPhone-A-Like Handset Ever!!!
How about we have a discussion whereby some people make perfectly reasonable, legitimate arguments about why that isn't the case. And one person just repeats the headline in post after post, and questions why people always insist they are right, thinks everyone else is wrong, in a display of breathtaking arrogance, despite the fact that the story clearly states: Samsung’s Metal-Edged Galaxy Alpha Is Its Most iPhone-A-Like Handset Ever!!!!1!!! |

Then (unsurprisingly) you have a very short memory. I asked many questions on here regarding the different models and took a while deciding which one to go for on both occasions.
And when you say, 'keep choosing them', I've only had (and still have) two of their cheaper phones. You seem very sensitive about Samsung, but it is difficult to know your views on the alpha because as usual, you haven't expressed any view. What's up, has no one written a headline for you yet? - Yet your posting (extensive posting on the subject) knowledge of Samsung extends to what phones receive what upgrade, what likely spec and version new handsets will be, what their business models are, sales strategy, their profit returns, which models to choose for best bang for buck etc. However you would now have us believe that a few model names are confusing you, I smell something and it is not my lunch cooking. |

Why does every brand new thread about a smartphone always have the same usual suspects coming in and taking over with their bullshit?!Why am i not surprised you went and found an article mentioning the iPhone and the Alpha and then dragged it in here so you could hijack the thread. This is for the Samsung Galaxy Alpha so why would anyone want to talk about and discuss the iPhone?? I'm absolutely f*cking sick of this shit! It happens all the time.Quote:

The Galaxy Alpha looks extremely similar to the Galaxy S2. And it looks a bit like an iPhone 5/5S. (Get them in hand though and you can bet the Alpha feels like neither of them).
Apple iPhone 5 announced 09-2012 Samsung Galaxy Alpha announced 08-2014 Samsung Galaxy S2 announced 02-2011 Now my first degree was in chemistry and my masters was in computer science. I have never studied horology so I don’t feel qualified to answer the following question: “Of the three phones listed above which was announced first?” Once one of the forum experts can answer that for us we will be able to decide who came up with the idea of an oblong with slightly rounded corners. And from that we will be able to infer who is copying whom. It is a shame that all this crap is detracting from discussing the Alpha. The phone is a radical departure for Samsung, if only for moving away from the mantra of more is better. Look at the battery size, 1860 mAh, they must be super confident in the battery efficiency of that octocore chip. They must have nailed the LTE modem as well as we haven’t seen that many LTE Samsungs with out Qualcomm SoCs. |

Samsung got where they are now by leading uncompromising specs wars, telling us they have for us the best, strongest, fastest, etc. I wonder how this new direction will work for them.

My point here wasn't that the Alpha looked like the iPhone to hijack anything. My point was about how stupid it is to rely on a headline from an article, and a headline only, to make a point. And how pointless any discussion is when people make perfectly good arguments to the contrary, but someone just repeatedly bangs on about the headline. Which is what Kidspud was talking about in his reply to swordman before my post. |

I don't know why you're surprised, as I think you'd struggle to find many threads about phones other than the iPhone where I've posted anything at all.

Always makes me laugh, at how these threads deterioate into a them Vs us thread. I havent posted in these types of thread for ages. Thought I would try again today, and it seems things havent changed much over the last couple of months.
How about we stick to just discussing the Samsung Alpha. |

Well, I'm still wondering if that metal chassis is needed.
The reality is that plastic design(polycarbonate if you want to be posh) is a major positive. A 720p screen is fine, but does that mean it a beast of a mid range phone? |

I'm interested to see how it sells, Samsung sales are falling through the floor across the globe. So let's see if this phone outsells the iPhone 6. Could this be the first Samsung phone to out sell an iPhone? But then with Apples sales seeing big growth it will have to perform very well to beat the iPhone 6.

Well this one for a start. You brought apple into this thread needlessly.
Sometimes I think younxant help yourself but constantly yap about apple... Not to mention the context here, which wasn't really Apple, or the iPhone, but rather how pointless it is to rely on solely on a headline to make an argument. Looks like people's sense of irony has deserted them here. |

Happening to mention it here is hardly evidence of doing that on a regular basis. Both you and I have contributed on plenty of Apple related threads where other stuff has cropped up.

Looks like people's sense of irony has deserted them here. I have indeed contributed to apple etc threads, but what I have never done is went out my way on an apple thread, is bring android into it to cause a problem. You on the other hand have done that several times. |

They were told too many times that Samsung plastic looks cheap, which I agree with, especially the white one. This is supposed to be something premium looking. Personally I have nothing against plastic, if the surface finish is nice.
His wife upgraded her S3 to the S5 as well but it was the gold one. Its very tacky looking but I think that for any gold phone. |
