Mico DVD recoder / Philips DVD recorder

I got a Mico 311 DVD recorder mega cheap and it works fine, but it doesn't have RGB inputs.

The philps 880 & 890 DVD recorders do have and apparently they are the same internals as the Mico.

Has anyone managed to upgrade their Mico to a philips using firmware or whatever.

I've downloaded a few firmware disks and tried it but I either get SYS UNSUPP or the machine just hangs an SYS VER 211803.

I'm sure this can be done, I know the Philips 880 & 890's are unreliable but this is due to the DVD transport itself.

I've done alot of searching abotu but can't find anything to point me in the right direction.

for those of you about to reply with "Go buy a philips" dont bother, thanks

The Mico is actually a cut-down clone of the newer DVDR70, not the 880.

However, I would not recommend changing the firmware. Even if you got it to work there are significant internal differences between the Mico and the Philips.

You might have more joy with for example the Cyberhome DVD recorder firmwares. I wouldn't recommend it, but as both these and the Micos are based on the Philips reference design they may work.

Regarding the RGB input, I believe the problem is restricted hardware rather than firmware so you won't be able to get RGB input on the Mico. If you want this feature, sell the Mico and buy a LiteOn 5002/5006 at the very least.

After 18 months of reliable service, my Philips DVDR70 died 1 minute into a recording (DVD+RW disc) with a "Disc Error" message. It then hung on a post format for ages until I decided to power down and back on. It now won't read or write anything, as it cannot recognise any discs in the drive (including commercial DVD Videos). Discussions with Currys, Partmaster and Philips have resulted in nobody being either willing or able (parts completely unavailable) to help me.

Sony here I come...

i have had Philips DVD recorders mine is no good its good for the bin it can't record before it could and it keeps skiping chapters half way throw the movie which is really bad.

it would be good if we solved the problem our self. do you lot think if we get a dvd recorder lense cleaner would help?

when i went to dixons they said it would cost me £15 for one of them but the advisore said it can't be garanted that it would fix the problem.

i might get it in a few days and see if it helps i will let you all know. its worth a try beacuse i spent more then £300 on the i ave had Philips DVd player.
