CS - Peter Barlow should die *spoilers*
Okay, so I saw a preview in which Peter ends up in hospital. I don't know if he gets beaten up or ends up getting alcohol poisoning, but if it is the latter I think he should be killed off. One it would be a good twist and a good exit for the character, and it will be interesting to see how Rob will cope with the fact he has (indirectly) caused another death. Unlike Tracy I don't believe Rob is a sociopath and I would like to see his reaction when he has to deal with the grief around him, especially from Ken and Simon. Ken especially will be interesting as he ponders if it was his fault for Peter being the way he is for not being a good father to him over the years. It will make compelling viewing.
And I think it is time for the character to reach the end of the road. As much as I like Chris Gascoyne I think the writers will be incapable of taking his character in another direction if he chooses to return in the future. Although being in prison and going through more misery would surely be a good way for change in the character and make him think about his selfishness, he would probably revert to type with another sleazy affair or more getting drunk storylines and messing up, followed by more self pity. What does anyone think, should Peter finally die? Then they can reintroduce Adam to add to the Barlow family unit. |

If Peter died without the truth about Tina coming out, Rob would think he'd got away with it and consider it a bit of a result. He would feel bad at the grief he'd caused but I think he'd try to get over that by being a real good guy - as he is already. He'd be super nice to Curly and try to convince himself that Si was better off without his scumbag dad.
I wonder, if Peter did die, would the police carry on the investigation into Tina's murder? I suppose in Soapland the truth must come out eventually. It would be interesting to see Rob struggling with his guilt maybe for years, but I doubt TPTB have the patience for that. |

Probably dodgy alcohol.
Prison made hooch is made out of anything that can be acquired, so it is quite possible that a batch could be a bad one which is poisonous. |

I said this on another thread yesterday. it will be interesting to see if Rob Spiraled further due to PBs death. Mind you killing him off ends any future return and Id actually like to keep PB.

I don't believe that he is being killed off.
I believe that it was announced some time ago that he was to spend some time away from the show, not leaving the show. |

Purely for the fact they've already killed off one Barlow twin, they absolutely cannot kill off the other. Plus Peter is a brilliant character, too good to kill off even for story purposes.

As much as I like the character, I think it would be a good storyline if he was to be killed off. It would definitely make Rob feel the pressure, so much so in fact that he could just buckle under the strain of it all and confess. It's obvious that it's getting to him already. He's not like Tracy. He's actually got a heart lol.
But then again, maybe just the thought of NEARLY causing another death (albeit indirectly) would have the same kind of effect. I'm warming to Rob but at the end of the day he still killed Tina and he can't get away with it. |

I think Peter Barlow is an interesting character so I don't want them to kill him off. You see a human side to him, he makes mistakes and usually pays for them one way or another. At the moment he is paying for his affair in the worst possible way, he has lost his son, his freedom, his home and life and is up for a murder he didn't commit and worst of all everyone except Tracey and Ken think he is a murder, even Deirdre (his own stepmother) and Leanne (who I think knows Peter better than Carla ever did) have their doubts about him.

If they can bring his character in another direction in future without reverting to sleazy behaviour or affairs, I don't mind him being spared. But if this story is for nothing and Peter will still act like the way he was before, they are best just getting rid.
He had his chance of a redemption story, but the writers ruined it and him. |

They should have Peter Barlow develop liver failure, it would be a realistic progression for his alcoholism storyline and a bit more interesting to see than just another relapse after relapse. It would raise important issues about the long term consequences of alcohol abuse too.

Peter seems a strange cross between Uriah Heep and Adloph Hitler. I know CG is off on one of his many breaks but not sure if he is returning whereas they wont kill off someone who is played by such a good actor, I find it amazing how Peter can just wander around wing to wing unchecked and his alcolism has just been ignored by the autorities with no checks on a health and safety or duty of care basis. If he died through getting this hooch from The Landlord, the Barlows could have a case to sue.
