@mintroyale: So "Baby Don't Dance" based entirely on Mark the 45 King's 900 Number, which of course is just a sample, has 3 writers, Fleur plus 2.

@mintroyale: They're both current writers, certainly not the original writers. So they've basically just nicked it and are going to see what happens?

@mintroyale: I'm fairly sure the writing credits on a few tracks might have to be amended in the coming weeks.

^^^^ interesting. The intro is exactly the same. Very surprised to not see it credited. Bad news if they're sued, wonder what will happen.

I would imagine they got permission - fleur has a degree in journalism, she wouldnt let that slide, I expect the credits need to be updated.

She will probably need to hit #1 or Cowell will see it as a failure, compared to his previous "serious" acts who all debut at #1.

SC is sensible enough to know that no XF contestant is going to get a No1 slot above Coldplay. I am sure he will be more than happy as will Fleur if she gets a top five positon to along with the success of her single. .

The original source is a Marva Whitney track

Of course it's been sampled countless times, so maybe they think they can get away with it. Plus it sounds to me like they've replayed the phrase. Still ripping it off though, clearly.

A lot of these 60s soul writers and musicians who've been sampled to the back and beyond haven't seen a penny from sales of the records that sample them, sadly. The Amen Break is a notorious example. Pretty poor form for them to jump in on the exploitation without giving proper dues.

So true, with the huge publicity campaign Syco will want some return in their investment, currently at No. 14 it will have to do a lot better or sadly another Syco act to be shown the door.

This is utter nonsense. Do you really think that any SF contestant is going to compete with the likes of Coldplay or Adele? Fleur isjust establishing herself, and i am sure will be delighted to get a top 5 position as would any act bringing out a debut album.

one thing for sure she is doing better than Ben.

I mean the other guy has a point with Coldplay and Adele being tough competition but I mean she SHOULD at least be in the top 5 but is nowhere near that I am quite shocked she is not doing better. Does not look good.

She is currently No 7, and heading upwards.

you haven't taken into account any physical sales - iTunes is only half of her chart position and it's been out less than a day. Wow write her off before she's even started lol! Sax is silver ATM! Hardly a flop. Album sales rise everyday

The music industry is a ruthless business and with the amount of money invested in acts they want a return, the album has been released at a time of year where they will get maximum sales, if it sells well happy days but if it does'nt do you think they will pump money into a second album with the same amount of publicity? Good luck to her if it sells well, she deserves success for 10 years of trying and total respect for any artist who keeps on trying.Sales are more important than chart position but i personally think it needs to do well due to the amount invested in her. Cowell is only interested in making a profit out of acts and if they don't they're out.

Currently number 53 on the Amazon Music chart. Number 29 on the Amazon pop chart. I suppose she could be selling a ton at Asda, it's her natural habitat after all, but it's not currently looking like it will go top 5 this week as jeref so confidently predicted.

It really has to go top 5 or the moment Cowell signs Louisa, its game over. Cowell drops artists like a bad habit the moment he finds someone newer, and most of all younger.

To be fair I can't really see Louisa competing directly with Fleur, at least not in terms of the road they've taken her down on the show. I would imagine if Tamera ever comes out of gestation/finishing school (and can actually dance) she would be the biggest threat to Fleur's favour with Cowell.

Will be interesting to see where the album ends up at the end of the week. I kind of expected it's sales to be comparable to Ben's, though it looks like it might be doing a little worse at the moment. But then I suppose it makes sense she'd be a more singles-orientated act. Not so much money in that though , of course.

Be honest with yourself Fleur is so much better than Louisa - she is a all round Performer and she's establishing herself - Louisa isn't a patch on Fleur no way!

Fleur is the performer Tamera wasnt also I think shel be safe a while yet

She needs more than one number 3 single though. And it remains to be seen who does 'better' in the long term. If the album doesn't follow through they could well regret the amount of money they pumped into her and decide to cut their losses.

Geez do we really need minute by minute relay of the album sales and reviews taking up the forum. Go to the appreciation thread already

The review in the evening standard said it all " but that signature note of Syco cheapness clings to the whole production"

She may have Cowell behind her pumping money in but it don't mean she will be great

I'm not particularly keen on Louisa, but she has far superior vocal skills to Fleur. I would agree however that neither Louisa or Tamera are particularly gifted in the performance stakes. On the other hand, they're both young and may grow into that side more.

Ultimately it doesn't really matter though, for any of them if their records don't sell enough and sell enough consistently they'll be dropped. Cowell's not generally one to wait around while an artist develops, he's more of a 'throw enough sh!t against the wall until some of it sticks' kinda guy.

Fleurs sales are likely to be well ahead of Bens over the next few weeks tbh.
