I think Shane could handle this storyline well - he has risen to the occasion when the script has called for it and to be honest the 'cheeky chappie' act is not only wearing thin, but also seems to have been assumed by Mick Carter to a certain extent.”
Agreed on all points!
Making sure all the family are out before himself is exactly the sort of thing Alfie would do, even Stacey and Jean who he isn't so fond of and it is very likely that doing this would mean that time would be ticking away leaving a very short time between his escape and the explosion and collapse of the house and it is very likely that he could fall or be blown out of the window during the explosion and land awkward and severely damage his spine.
I too think Shane can handle this and it would give him a massive opportunity to shine and perhaps gain a little sympathy for Alfie.
And yes, Mick Carter does seem to be the new 'happy clappy cheeky chappy' and Alfie does seem to be stuck in a rut and the script writers seem to have lost their way with him so he does need something major to happen.
