How does A/V Sync work on Sony Blu-ray players?
Like many people I've had problems with the sound being out of sync with the picture on the new Twin Peaks Blu-ray set. I managed to solve the problem almost completely by adjusting the A/V Sync function on my Sony Blu-ray player which (the manual claims) delays the sound output in relation to the picture output.
My question is: why does this fix the problem on the faulty parts of the disc but not send the good parts of the disc out of sync? I'm really glad it doesn't but the reason is a mystery to me! |

The adjustment is for when you use a surround sound (or separate) audio system - TV's take time to process the picture (and the more expensive the TV, the more processing it does, and thus the longer it takes). Sound through the TV 'should' be OK, because the TV automatically delays the sound by the correct amount.
However, via an external sound system there's no delay - so the BD player (or Sky HD box etc.) has a delay function built-in, to delay the sound to compensate. No idea why you find some parts of the film were OK without delay?. |
